Hi :)

remember that your budget has to also cover a memory card (or 2) & probably a bag.

do you want to have an eye-level viewfinder or are you happy just using the rear screen?
how small/large are you happy with it being?

if you don't need a viewfinder & are happy with something that can slip into a pocket I would suggest looking at something like a Panasonic DMC-TZ25 (available for about £150).

£200?
This is a very good time to be a beginner in photography with 200 pounds budget ;) - second hand Micro 4/3 system can easily be had for this money, as well as second hand Sony NEX.
For m43- have a look at panasonic GF1, GF2, GF3, G1; OLYMPUS E-P1, E-P2, E-PL1, E-PL2, E-PL3.
For NEX- Sony NEX-C3 is quite good.
Kit lenses will be fine to start with.

All of thses cameras can be had within your budget and all are very beginner friendly and yet produce pictures on a different level to P&S that you've likely used before. Please dont buy P&S superzoom, its pictures will have no wow factor whatsoever (in terms of clarity and sharpness anyway).
