I'm going to be getting a Nikon D90 very soon and once I get it I will be selling my D50 setup to pay for another flashgun.

I've already got an SB800 which would be used for any on camera work so I'm looking at a second flashgun for off camera work.

The flashgun needs to be a nikon as I want to be able to adjust the power from the camera rather than running between the camera and flash all the time lol.

I was thinking of the SB600 as that seems to get mentioned alot but wanted to check that there wasn't another one that would do the job just as well.

Why not get an optical trigger like a Nikon SU-4 (I got one for £30 on fleabay) and attach something reliable like an SB28 to it? Okay, it's not adjustable in-camera but it gives TTL flash metering of sorts and great results for less than £100.

Other than that I'd invest in another (used) SB800 - best flashgun I've ever used and full CLS compatibility.

has the SB600 not got full CLS compatibility aswell? I'm just finding it difficult to find a reason to spend the extra on an SB800 over the SB600.

Yes it does (as a slave only) but it doesn't have nearly the level of adjustment the 800 does. Having said that used SB-800s are goin for daft money, a few quid more buys a 900, which is :thumbs:
 
Would I be a little daft saving a few pennies on the SB600 over the 800 then? or even the 900?

I've seen the 600 going for £169 on one site which is half the price of the 900 for instance.
 
I have an SB-600 and 2 SB-800s. I tend to use the SB-800s together most of the time simply because the SB-600 interface is completely different from the SB-800, and it's a pain going between them all the time. I use the SB-600 as my general walkaround flash, as it's a lot smaller and more pocketable.
