Hi,

I am thinking I might buy some seamless paper from Calumet (via Jessops - I have some vouchers to spend). I was wondering what colour to buy?
I do white BG photos of kids and the like, so Arctic White might be the obvious choice, but there are other colours and it might be an idea to "ring the changes" and plump for something different - get away from what some people call the "Chav-ground". :)

What do you guys think? I only have funds for one roll at the moment (2.72m x 11m), otherwise I'd buy 2 or 3 and a roll support.

Cheers

How about mid grey +1 stop = white 0 stop = grey no light = black gel the light = gel colour

Yes, it was the grey ones that got me thinking. I could get various shades with the white, and gels are not an issue. It was the ability to get black that had me wondering...

Thanks. :)

I agree that grey can be a very good choice - but forget about getting it to photograph black, unless you are backlighting your subject, so that no light falls on the background, or you have so much distance between subject and background that (effectively) no light falls on the background.

Yes, I see. I was going to get white, then maybe a black on later on...would that be a better option (or a grey, then a black?)

Thanks

Well, whatever you do, black needs to be an additional purchase. Personally I prefer black muslin to black paper, not only does it last much longer than paper, paper also tends to be a bit shiny which you definitely don't want.

Unless you want to do full length and then muslin is god awful.

Currently using white muslin, and the floor is the problem, so I use a square of vinyl on the floor to mitigate that.

I would prefer totally seamless, and can't afford a large piece of vinyl to do that. Paper seems to be the way to go, as I can always use it out of the studio too. Later I wish to build a curve properly, but can't do that yet. :)

Is there a way to stop the black paper being shiny, but still have the full length at the front?

Cheers
