What photography blogs do you read?

So I follow a few blogs and sites already: This one; Fro Knows Photo, Chase Jarvis, Learning DSLR etc...

I love to learn and I like understanding why other people do things, or shoot the way they do so Please tell me what is your favourite blog or site to follow? (Photography related only please)
 
This one and POTN,I am not a great blogger or forum watcher
 
Basically, I look at Strobist and then i flit around using links that people on there (and on TP) post up to interesting stuff. Usually a google search will find something I want to know about and that's usually when you find little gems....
 
none really, i use here and a vw site called edition38 which has a pretty active photography thread with a lot of posting and chat in it. flickr explore gives me plenty of variety and inspiration without forcing opinions down my throat. i follow a couple of photographer on facebook though if they catch my eye or if i know them personally
 
I looked at a Tumblr site yesterday, i don't know if they're anything to do with flickr as the names sound similar.
I thought myself about having a dabble in a blog.

Nope not related, I love blogs and I think if you are a business or freelancer trying to build a brand and interact with potential customers it's a great thing to have, a real vital tool to success.

Such as Chase Jarvis - his blog has tens of thousands of followers, he works all over the work and has a great brand.

I like following him because I see what gear he uses and how he uses it beyond what I would ever have thought to do with it.

Some good shares, I'll check out the other sites mentioned!
 
i like the idea of starting a blog but i'm not sure if i have enough to say to keep one going really. and since i don't really read blogs would it make me a hypocrit if i started one?

i checked out that chase jarvis guy though and his blog looks pretty good. i know social media is of growing importance to photographers and having a strong online presence is vital these days and some people seem to take to it like the proverbial ducks. i struggle to update my facebook profile lol
 
lol i can associate with that - i havent put anything new on my woodwork blog for over a year :(

If i did start a blog for my phography i'd have to make it mainly pictures and not much in the way of words.

the only blog i read regularly is andy rouse - and even then i dont read it as much as i used to.

i guess some people are just able to say ' hey look at me and my work' and fill blogs/facebook pages with work content and their ramblings on anything that comes to mind. i have a couple of friends in a band and on their facebook page they don't so much SAY 'look at us' they practically SHOUT 'LOOK AT US, WE'RE FANTASTIC'. and do you know what, it works for them so maybe there is a method to the madness.
 
The only photography blogs I look at are those TP members that are fellow students doing the OCA course.

It wouldn't make you a hypocrite, but it may not be too successful, according to the "experts":

1) You say you like the idea of a starting blog,but don't read them. Why is that? If you don't really read at least a few blogs fairly regularly, you're working in the dark. Look at them to determine what features make them popular, make them work. There are also lots of web info about starting a blog, but you'll need some serious mojo to keep it going.

2) What do you want to say in your blog? Try looking at several with themes/focus similar to the one you're planning. Just "photography" isn't enough as there are tons of these out there. Do you want to advertise yourself as a photographer? Do you want to offer something to readers (i.e., instructions, tips, news, etc.)? To get readers, you'll need something to keep them coming back.

3) Blogs that are not updated regularly (at least once per week) lose readers. There are too many other ones who do update regularly.

Considering all that, having a blog can be a lot of fun. You may make friends, you may find it easier as you progress. Good luck.
 
I read Joe McNally's regularly, plus I've got a few others on Google Reader that I dip into every few weeks and catch up all in one go.

I have my own blog, as an addition to my website. I do it for myself more than anything else, as I enjoy writing (I'm not much good at it but I'm improving) and in putting my thoughts down in writing about my photographs, I'm studying and analysing them more and am seeing things that I hadn't previously. I've got a lot out of it, and got some interesting leads and feedback off the occasional visitor that I get:)

thanks for the reply jane ;) i've been browsing a few blogs/facebook pages etc and trying to get a feel for what i like in terms of content, style and format. i think i might start a facebook page for my photography rather than a full on blog in a new format. ready made contact list with my facebook friends, familiar format and something to work towards are swinging it for me. maybe if it goes well i'll start a blog on tumblr or a similar site.

to keep this on topic though, does a facebook photography page which is updated regularly still count as a 'blog'?
