i have always used photoshop cs2 but for some reason it opens but doesnt load an image now and it wont let me uninstall it to see if i can reinstall it, so am looking for a cheap alternantive to use in the mean time

thanks!

A cheap( well free alternative) is GIMP.

serif Photoplus X3 is £29 at PC World

internet price - pickup in store

GIMP come highly recommended, but takes getting use to....
Picasa from Google is also free, abit more basic with the editing capability, but I use it for the photo gallery

Paintshop Pro or Photoshop Elements are the budget software of choice, I've used both, prefer Elements, but use photoshop at work, both under £80.

Kerso is selling Element 7 for £35 - amazing piece of software

another vote for the GIMP
should most of what cs4 does although a bit clunky

Don't use Photoshop but do use

Photoscape, Silkypix and GIMP

Lightroom 3 - 95% of the time - hugely faster to process than anything else out there!

MS Paint

Photoscape

Photoscape for me is one of the best kept secrets. Top software and is the first tool I use for photos. Then go to Photoshop.

For those using Gimp, is there a way to batch process or is it just a one pic at a time?

I use "Gimp". Its like Photoshop, but free. Its pretty good, obviously not quite as awesome as photoshop, but close enough and worth the price!

Bridge for sorting, Photoshop for editing with Alienskin's Bokeh, Exposure and Blowup.

Until you start printing. The 8 bit limitation is a huge stumbling block too. Other than that and few other nigglies its isn't bad for the price. ;)

If you want Photoshop, but cheaper, look at Photshop Elements.

LR3 for 95% of work. Photoshop CS4 for the occasional more tricky edits.

on the Mac CS5 & Lightroom 3 & on the work PC's Express Digital Darkroom

Aperture 3.

Tried a trial of Lightroom 3 and liked it but it was £70 to upgrade from Aperture 2 or over 200 quid to get Lightroom 3. I also prefer Aperture's library system.

paintshop pro photo x2, tried 3 but was too glitchy for me.. and elements 6 for adding actions to photos..

have photoshop but not keen, suppose its down to being comfortable using the others?
