What ND grad filter setup

Hi all,

I'm really getting into landscape stuff, especially involving sunsets. I figure now is the time to invest in a set of filters and a holder.

Budget is only £50, and I'd hope to get a holder and one or two ND grad filters for that, with a view to adding more filters over the next few months.

I use a Canon 450D with the kit 18-55 IS lens and a Hoya circ-polarising filter.

Any suggestions for brand/type of filter?

I'm thinking a ND 0.6 just because it's 'in the middle'!

Try doing without the holder for starters. Just hold the filter against the rim of the lens. It's easy if you're using a tripod, and possible with practice handheld. You can keep the polariser on the lens as well, if you want.

I get very good natural looking skies using a polariser and a one- or two-stop hard-edged ND grad.

Maybe you could go for 1.5 stop as a compromise?
