I've smoothed the skin and brightened the eyes... can I improve the image further with PS?

Not sure about brightening "whites" of eyes - it's a bit like whitening teeth until you consider that teeth aren't actually designed "bright" white.
 
I'd be tempted to dodge the darker parts a bit and see how that looks, might help might not.

The mottled effect is makeup, which is now highlighted by the process, I've had a play with didging, which has seemed to help

As for whitening the eyes, I've toned down the effect, it just gives a little more punch, which I think is important with head shots!

Sorry to but in on the OP thread but how does Portrait Professional compare to Photoshop ?? because the pic above looks better done with Portrait Professional

It doesn't.
Portrait pro is a stand alone portrait editor, it's designed to add skin softening/face sculpting only to portraits, it does have a lot of control over the portrait (change lip colour etc) but it's pretty much useless for anything other than portraits, you couldn't use it for a landscape say.
 
Ok ty for the info i only really do portraits and have just tried the v10 trial version and it seems very easy to use and with 50% off at the moment im going to invest in a copy :thumbs:
 
The big plus of Portrait Professional over Potatoshop for me is that I cannot be bothered to learn to use Potatoshop properly. Portrait Professional gives you reasonable results with jusy a few clicks to mark out key features - eyes, nose, mouth, chin - and then quickly generates its impression of a tidied up image. After that it's all down to sliders to tone down (or up) the adjustments made, a bit like the simplicity/ease of Lightroom. There are no layers, masks, blending modes and so on. It is intuitive and quick.

Sure, it's a one trick pony - portraits and that's it, although it can deal with full length portraits, not just headshots - but then compared to Potatoshop it's not very expensive either, and the trial gives ample opportunity to see if it's worthwhile.

I did have PP9 and recently took advantage of the free upgrade to PP10. I haven't bothered with any back to back comparisons, but my gut fell tells me that the results from PP10 on default settings are more usable than PP9. YMMV.

I reckon the pp version of the portrait is far better than the imagenomic one, the latter looks way over the top to me.
