Yes
What memory do you use? CF, SD, other? Do you have no name cards or the kind that are specially designed/brand name (like the SanDisk Extreme III or similar?)?

And have you ever had problems with your memory? Like failure or incorrect operation?

Just curious

CF. I now use SanDisk since I have had a cheapo card fail on me (obviously it was a completely unrepeatable shot I had on it...).

Sandisk ( Compactflash, SD, PRO DUO, M2 ) here also - they've never let me down yet . . .

I use Sandisk Ultra and Extreme - never had any problems.

I tend not to use cards above 2GB and spread shooting across several cards. That way if one fails you have not lost the lost. But - I have never had a Sandisk fail ;-)

Check online suppliers - Amazon etc. for reasonable costs.

I use Sandisk Extreme III cards, 4GB + 2GB CF cards and a 4GB SD card for my compact, i have a 4GB cheap make CF card, but it's noticably slower the the Sandisk, you can pick them up quite cheap, i just ordered a 4GB Sandisk Extreme III from amazon for 16.99 inc postage.

CF Sandisk extreme III for me cheap enough and bundled with the recovery program - nice touch!

I use Sandisk III 2GB and 4GB, good price and peformance in my 40D, regards Damian. :)
PS. Got my last 4GB from 7dayshop.com.

CF Sandisk, Transcend, MyMemory own brand, PQI all fine.

I was tempted to get some PQI stuff but I 'never heard of it before'.

Than after I come home with a few Kingston 2gig cards I realize my mini USB drive is a PQI (and I've never had any problems with that for over a year)

:bonk:

SD Cards for quite a while in various devices. A few unbranded ebay ones (never been a problem, once formatted). Sandisk Ultra II and III, mymemory, Fuji. Not had one fail on me.

SanDisk Extreme III 4 gig CF
and
Sony 2 gig SD

Sandisk Extreme III in the D300, but I have some unbranded (Toshiba) SD cards from 7dayshop from my D80 days that have been great

Sandisk Extreme (CF) II & III's in the D200 and Lexar cards (SD) in the D50.

San Disk SDHC Extreme III and II for my Nikon D80

I have:

Sandisk Extreme IV - 4Gb x1
Sandisk Extreme III - 4Gb x3
Sandisk Extreme III - 2Gb x2
Sandisk Ultra II - 1Gb x1
Lexar x133 - 1Gb x1
Hitachi Microdrive - 2Gb x1

I've had 1 CF card die - this was a fake Sandisk from Ebay - I got my money back but kept the card.

I use Sandisk Extreme III CF cards. Mixture of 2GB and 4GB. Never had any issues

Sandisk Ultra II SD cards in the D40x and Sandisk Extreme III CF in the D200

The question now is how do you guys store your cards? Heheh

I also use sandisk extreme cf cards and never had any problems.

I have two of the Sandisk pouches that come with the cards on a lanyard with my pass for the racing, one has a big green bit of tape on it to indicate unused cards, so that I can do quick changes mid-race :)

One thing that puzzles me is why some people will spend hundreds or even thousands on their gear and then scrimp on what is basically the most important bit of kit for the camera. It always seems to me to be a major false economy to go budget/unknown on things like memory and storage.

I agree, not only that, but you see so many people buying memory cards off of ebay because they're 'cheaper' and then hope they're not fakes.

I use Lexar because they're reliable ( so far... :suspect: ) and always buy them form a proper reputable retailer, or direct form Lexar at the trade shows. Yep costs more than off whateveryouwantcheapershippeddirectfromchina.com but I don't want to loose the most important part of my photography.

As for what they're kept in. One empty card ALWAYS in the camera ( Two in the D3 ), even if it's just sat on the shelf ( you never know when you'll need to shoot fast). Then the rest are kept in a thinktank card wallet. Especially at weddings this wallet never leaves my person, and before leaving the location all the used memory cards are put in the wallet so if the cameras go missing, the shots are with me.

Another thing, I always store the memory cards in the wallet face up when they're empty, face down when they're used. Easy way to very quickly tell which card to put in next.

Indeed.

I fell for this once. Got what was clearly a fake. Never again. It's not as if it costs all that much either to get legit cards tbh.

Good idea that! I'm guilty of keeping everything together and never thought that the cameras would be the prime choice for theft so best to keep the cards somewhere else! Will now be changing how I do things :)

I had a camera stolen from my car once, I'd only put the kit in the boot and then left the car for about 15mins. So the thief had obviously seen me put the kit in the car, and then took their chance.

The rear window was replaced under the car insurance, along with all the other stuff they damaged on the way into the boot, the camera wasn't worth much so never got anything for that. The upsetting thing was all the used film canisters I'd got from my holiday away, and the photos of my friends BD party, were all in the bag too.

Lesson learned. Equipment can be replaced, the images cant.
