This is an open question, not looking for anything in particular, just wondering how other see photographs and photography, is it the technical ability or the moment in time that you have captured or something else?

I know in the past I haven’t like some pictures but others have LOVED it, so I presume that for every person that likes it there must be one that dislikes it...

So for you what would make the perfect picture??? Feel free to interpret this question how you want as long as it’s constructive or post up your favourite pictures for everyone to see and hopefully enjoy seeing how others photographic minds works, it might make you look at you own work differently???

Like the rest of photography, it's totally subjective.

I was taking some photos of the first dance at a friend's wedding, got a whole host of shots, some were nicely lit, decent focal sharpness and B&G both smiling and/or gazing into each other's eyes.

There was one in particular that was a bit on the dark side, the focus was very slightly off BUT I captured the moment their eyes met after a pretty passionate "snog", the B&G now have this picture in their lounge.

If I put the picture on here for crit it'd probably get panned but forgetting the technicalities it really captured the moment.

I thunk a bit of both. I like a technically really good shot of something dull, and I like something that captures a moment even if it has something not quite right about it techncally. When the btwo come together, THEN you have a PERFECT photo.

This is totally subjective.

@Alan, I have seen some amazing photos that are definately NOT technically perfect hanging in world famous galleries.

There is no right or wrong, if the picture conveys something to the viewer, wether of joy, sadness, hatred, anger, fear, disgust etc etc. then only the person can have an opinion on whether or not it is good...

Some images just are great and will stand the test of time. Some images are hailed as being amazing, but are in actual fact total rubbish. Take the recent rather "rude" picture that the photographer took of his wife and entered into a rather well known portrait competition...

Also, too many people are obsessed with pixels and technicalities rather than seeing an image for what it is.

As russ said, images taken at shoots/weddings have been not to my liking, the people wanting the shots really love them. it bugs me senseless.

In my case, someone else releasing the shutter..:)

Not only the image quality or approval of others, but the memory of when and where you took it plays a big part in the overall feeling of satisfaction

Difficult to say precisely, its a whole combination of things that make me admire a particular picture, soemtimes its just one or two elements, sometimes it a whole bunch of stuff that the tog has got just right. Very very difficult to define as its all about personal taste - eg I can admire a technically perfect picture but soemtimes it doesnt do it for me, other times it can be less than perfect in some aspects but still makes you go wow.

For me it's capturing the moment the feeling the mood at tha time.

I think it's also about the fact the photo can reflect the mood of the photographer too which personally I love

a really big pair of boobs

For me, it's a picture that tells a story.

I may not know what story that is when I'm taking a picture, but it's always in the hope that someone else will. It's easier when it's a photo of a memory (like a place, or event I've been to), because my story is already in it, even if I'm the only one who knows it!

My perfect picture is awful, taken on my phone as my camera had died, and zoomed right in as my Grey (male siberian husky) was all the way over the other side of the dog park. Out of focus and blurry, couldnt really make it out that well. BUT it was a picture of him allowing a small dog to jump all over him, for a previously dog agressive dog with a huge prey drive it was a very special thing for me.

It wont be perfect to anyone other than myself, but to me it is special.
