What made you choose.....?

Moved from Nikon film to Canon film, as the Canon 500n looked the best choice for me at the time, and after buying a few Canon (fit) lenses, stayed with Canon when I moved to digital. I also preferred the sound of the word Canon to Nikon when I was much younger!!

Ha ha. I like it. But if people had pronounced Nikon with a hard I instead of a soft I would it have been different? LOL

Started out with a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympus_OM-1 a camera so old it didn't have a battery, wish I still had it, may buy it again. I shoot film on throw away canon SLRs, you can pick up the last one (1999 model) in the cheapest range for under £40 and it has all (if not more) bells and whistles that any dslr has, because they are so cheap you just don't care about breaking them which is a very freeing experience, more importantly they are light.

Went nikon because I prefer the feel of the build. Do I get camera envy, sure, but I would recommend any Nikon in the DXXX range to anyone, now I know the brand more and the available lenses, I would strongly recommend you get a camera that can use AF lenses if you can if it's your first camera, the extra £ you spend on the body will come back to you when you are starting out with a lens collection and then when you are ready upgrade your lenses you will really appreciate the better body.

i just looked at what my mates were shooting & i chose the same brand that the person i thought was taking the best pics was using.
i was being pused towards canon by 2 friends who were pretty good but my friend Jimmy does the best RC racing pics & he was a Nikon shooter so thats the way i went & i'm glad i did

i've since used some canon bodies to take pics for friends but find them a bit of a cack handed ergonomic disaster to be honest BUT i did get some good shots ( well it was a 1d mk3 or somethging with L glass)

some of Jimmys pics in this report of a race i went to about 2 weeks ago in Belgium - http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/belgiangp2011/

Bought my first digital camera in 2002 without much idea of what to buy. Went into a shop, saw one i liked and bought it - a nikon coolpix 4500. Bought a nikon f75 slr film camera not long after for a darkroom course i was doing as there was a great offer on, and have used nikon dslr's since 2005. I've no emotional attachment to the brand, but I've bought into a system and have multiple lenses and a flash so i see no reason to change as it won't make any difference to my photography.

My Dad had an old Olympus OM-1 with a few lenses and when I expressed an interest in getting a DSLR, he offered me them.

I hummed and hawwed between a number of cameras but I loved the feel of the E520 and coupled with the OM converter, I had a number of lenses straight off the bat.
