what lighting and equipment is everyone else using??

I am looking at purchasing lighting and studio equipment but there is so much about its getting rather confusing! What is everyone else using and what have you tried?? I'm using a canon 40d thanks

if you click on people's names, a drop down menu comes up. Click 'view public profile' and on that screen, click 'camera bag' and most people have a list there

Lots of people have a list in their signature too.

I think it is (should be) more about what you personally need, rather than what other people have.

If you could give an idea of the type of shots you plan to use it for and the size of the space you have available...

i want to do portraite images. Mainly children but families and personal images too. I am currently wanting to turn my garage into a studio (which i notice a few people on here are already doing) but at the moment i'm using my living/dining room which is about 3metres by 4metres. The garage will be approximately the same width but 6metres in length roughly!

In that case you might want to look at the Lencarta SmartFlash kit IMO that's your best buy.
Other suitable choices would be the Elinchrom D-Lite or the Bowens 200/200

Also, as well as getting the equipment, the environment you're in has a massive effect on how easy (and fun!) it will be.

If you're planning on converting a garage, it makes sense to have dark coloured walls to minimise the light reflecting off them.
