HaHa!! you thought I was going to ask what lens to buy:)
But what I want to no is the opinions on what lens to use to take photographs of sky?
I want to build up a library of skies.
The lenses I have are Canon 50mm, 17-40mm, 70-200mm and the 28-135mm IS
and the cameras, one crop and one FF.

I'd would say your 17-40, you get what you see with FF & with your 17mm end with the crop it would be nearly 28mm & 64mm at the 40mm end.
