Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice. I'm looking to get hold of a new lens for my Canon 550D. Ideally I would like a decent zoom lens. I have been looking at the Sigma 150-500mm but have seen different people saying that at full reach the quality of the image is much less, anyone with that lens it would be great to hear what you think. I have also looked at the 50-500mm Sigma but it would be really stretching the budget. If anyone can advise me that would be great, even of any good alternatives.

Thanks!

I should have mentioned I will be intended to use the lens for wildlife, and motorsport photography, cheers!

A used 50-500 without OS might suit as its optically better than the 150-500 but you can pick them up for around 400. And if your doing motorsport and bird in flight shots the OS is not needed and for still shots use a tripod or shoot in goodnight. If you can live with those restrictions that would be my choice

I second that. The 50-500 is a superb lens. Maybe you can consider also the 70-300 as you can find them a little cheaper second hand.

I had the sigma 150-500 for sports photography and was pleased with the quality between 150-300 but anything over that and the image quality deteriorated so much. I have just ordered the sigma 70-200 f2.8 with a 2x teleconverter to replace it. Slightly more expensive but gives much more versatility. In my opinion avoid the 150-500.
