what lens??

hi i have a canon 30d with basic 28-80mm lens and am just starting to work in portrait studio photography and am looking to upgrade my lens. i dont have a very large budget so was just seeing what everyone would recommend, many thanks

I bought a 50mm f1.8 (nifty fifty) Sam. Feels quite plasticky, but takes great portrait pics and can be had for 70-80 quid new I believe.

Hi Sam and welcome to the forum.

What lens is best in a studio is very subjective, I generally use either the 24-105mm L or the 24-70mm L for portraiture but these may be out of your budget range right now. I have also got some cracking results from using a 300mm and £60 50mm 1.8.

You will get some good debate on this one.
