Yes
Hi, Can any body recommend a lens to use for group photos around 100 peolple and will be mainly ouside I use canon 40d camera

It's more about getting the people positioned correctly and having enough space. Avoid using very wide lenses if you can as the distortion can cause a headache. Something around 24mm and enough distance from the group should do the job nicely.

Does the 40D have a 1.6x crop factor?

That's going to influence the choice if it does.

Yes, but crop factor doesn't change the distortion and people with stretched faces don't look so good :nono:

It'll just mean he needs to stand further away to get them all in. ;)

i recently bought a 28mm f2.8 for my 400d which also has a 1.6x crop factor and it is wide enough to shoot groups and landscapes but without the distortion and it is tack sharp and not very costly

Mine is full frame so I was concerned about the field of view with 1.6. It's difficult to visualise so I thought I'd bump the thread until someone with a 1.6x crop could help :D

Knew I could rely on you!

I have been advised to get 16-35f 2.8 canon L II?? any ideas? I will shooting about 100 peolpe on tiered stand about 6 rows.
