Yes
Hello. As im looking to save/buy a motorsport lens to replace my 55-250mm I thought it would be a good to idea to see what is popular.

Go a head and post the lens you use for motorsport.

Thanks :)

I'm guessing you have a crop camera? I really like the versatility and quality of the 100-400. Available at a reasonable price second hand.

Im using a 70-200 and 100-400 which Ive only just bought so hopefully it will give me some good pictures next weekend.

70-300mm L and a 300mm 2.8 IS

Although for the forest rallies I'm going to pick up another 70-200mm 2.8

Everything from 24mm f1.4L to 70-200 f2.8L IS and 300mm f2.8L IS as access to everywhere is fine at some events. You can't beat some of the club races for action and access so give it a go and get some great results.

For motorsport I use all of the following...

10 fisheye/2.8
10-22/3.5-4.5
17-40/4
24-70/2.8
70-200/2.8 non IS
100-400/4.5-5.6
300/2.8 - non IS
400/2.8
500/5.6 - Non IS

Have also used 600/4 & 800/5.6

It just depends on what I'm after or where I am.

100-400 every time.

I use my 100-400, it gives such a great range.
Or if you want something a little more versatile then the new 70-200 f2.8 with a 2 x extender, without the extender it is a cracking lens on its own

300mm f4
300mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8
24-105mm f4
1.4x TC
2.0x TC

Depends what your budget is as to the type of Motorsport's lens you get. The sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS is the one most people finally moved to from lenses like the sigma 150-500 or 120-400mm. The canon 100-400mm is very popular, so are the 300mm primes. The f4 version takes a 1.4x TC very well and the f2.8 version doesn't need any introduction, it's one of Canon's best lenses. The Canon 200-400mm f4 when it's released will definitely be on the radar for a few Motorsport togs.

The 100-400 does look a good lens but as its just a hobby for me I can't justify spending that much money at the moment. Very tempted by the 70-200mm f/4 because im currently using a 55-250mm and im aware the 70-200mm f/4 is such a sharp lens and I can't use it for other types of photography as well as motorsport.

Start by trying to work out what focal length you need then look at the options.

Just like Phil has said above, I use a wide range of lengths depending on the shot I am after.... 10.5mm all the way up to a 500mm with a 1.7x TC on it (850mm). Mainly though its the "classic" motorsport combo of a 70-200 combined with a 300mm and with a 1.4x TC in my pocket.

Yeah :) Well I have a job interview this afternoon so if I manage to get this second job I can buy more equipment :) I think a car comes first though then I can get out and shoot anywhere. I also like landscape photography.

Canon 70-200 F2.8L is a very popular choice, slightly cheaper is The Sigma 70-200 F2.8 which is almost as good
