I would say this to anyone just starting out (as I was 25 years ago).......
Forget your next job, forget tomorrow, forget next year even: work out where you want to be at the end, wherever the 'end' is, and work towards that.
For example if you want to be the next Lord Litchfield, there is no point in taking that NHS job as it will only hold you back (or you'll end up doing it for the next ten years and then it will become impossible to break free).
I used to be a TV Cameraman, and my goal was F1. You can't just turn up and ask for a job in F1 so I started at the bottom, working for small production companies working on lesser motor sports: I actually started working on Karts. It took a few years, but I worked my way up through different motor sports, finally to BTCC. After a year of that, I got my break into F1 and worked with FOA for 36 races (until all the travel got to me).
The point I'm trying to make is don't take a job unless it will take you somewhere you want to go.
If I was 25 years younger and only had myself to worry about, I would get a job as an assistant/gofor/tea maker with a person or company who were working in the field I want to work in.
Good luck with whatever you do
