What is your worst injury?

I was playing with fire this one time.

I was wearing a fleece jacket which had a zip which only went down about 6 inches from the top. The fleece caught fire and went up in less than a second. In the panic I tried to take it off but forgot to undo the zip. I had a burning fleece stuck on my head.

Oddly enough, my face remained unscathed. It was my hands which took the full brunt and ended up blistered like you've never seen before. I had to wear boxing glove bandages for the best part of 2 months.

That was the worst pain I can ever remember !

I was always in and out of A&E with cuts to the hands and fingers. We used razor blades a lot in my line of work. One lad went across the inside of his 4 fingers on one hand. It was fine as long as he kept his fist clenched, but if he opened his hand, blood squirted out from each of his fingers.

I've half my trigger finger missing on my right hand :'(

I think we need pics :D

Most gruesome injury........... fell down some stairs a few years ago (night-time, no specs on and no lights on either.) Feet smashed the glass in the door at the bottom, and I then impaled both my feet on the glass spikes left in the frame............. I had to pull my feet off the glass spikes, one of which had gone completely through my foot :) ......... It was a bit messy. For the next ten years I would occassionally get a piece of glass work its way to the surface of my skin........

But I have to agree with pxl8, NOTHING compares to migraine for pain. In the past I have had to be restrained because I was trying to pull off my own head  . I have also been hospitalised, transported under blues and twos, during a migraine attack :woot: , and I have even been sectioned!

I get at least a couple of these a week :shake: luckily I have some wonderfull drugs to self inject which take the edge of things. ;)

Fractured collar bone-- fell of a 7 foot out-house.

Broken wrist- football

Broken ankle - football

Broken finger- football

Not really gruesome, apart from my finger, which just wobbled on my hand, and sat at a 90 degree angle, to where it should have been. My team wanted me to play on, and suggested I could go in goal. Considerate or what!
Now as I think about it, they played on, didnt have any subs, and it was a player from the opposite team who gave me a lift to hospital (he was the one who had landed on me, breaking my finger, although to be fair, I had brought him down to stop him going through on goal).

Yep. I have winced. A lot.

I could tell you about how I was helping out an agricultural fencer and had my finger smashed between the mechanical hammer attached to the back of the tractor and the fence post................well I have told you now:D and funnily enough it did not hurt at the time it happened until it started to bleed then it was excruciatingly painful, now I am left with a star shaped scar where the flesh was burst open,

I've snapped my coccyx in half and fractured the three lower vertebra at the same time... and I've done this twice! :D Both times snowboarding, five years apart. I spend the whole time there ****ing about on jumps and in the trees, and on the last day think 'I'd better go easy today, stick to the nice groomed runs' and that's when it happens... every time! lol. So far I've knocked myself unconcious a few times, hyper extended my elbow, knocked my knee cap round to the side of my knee and the back thing!

The last time was in April this year (coccyx and vertebra) and it hurt so much worse this time! It's a b****r when I get up too quick or roll over in bed because I feel the bones literally grind together. Sometimes it's so bad that I can't move my legs and have to lay on my back for four days at a time. Aaaaawwww!

I was off work for a fortnight with a broken flask!!

I'm with you on this one... I get about one a fortnight and they last 3-4 days. It's not much fun, and it gets to the point I try to squeeze my head like a vice.

Worsse was breaking my wrist, most painful was getting an ear ring removed which wouldn't come out when I was 14.

I've fell on my head falling off a swing which wasn't so bad. Inflamed back and shoulder hurts more though In my opinion.

Glad I'm built durable.

Both times snowboarding

Hooning down fresh powder, leaving a rooster tail then....

snow-sky-snow-sky-snow-sky HEADPLANT :D

Skiing - broken bones in foot, peeled the skin of my forehead (shattered goggles) and a leg so badly twisted the doctor said I wouldn't walk for six weeks (back on slope following afternoon :help:)

Boarding - Broken Ribs / twisted shoulder

Cycling - Broken Collar bone / green stick fracture of upper arm

Motorbike - Split the top of the bone in my knee joint. Ended up with a purple foot when it got crushed agains a bus (it turned right when I was overtaking it). Temporary loss of use of right hand after a collision with a cars wing mirror, I was riding on my side of the road and a car coming the other way swerved across the line & hit me on the handlebars. Impact bent my brake lever around my fingers :cuckoo:

Nearly severed my right index finger in a car door, it took five nurses to hold me down when they sowed it back on (I was only 8 at the time)

Torn kidneys - Beaten up at school, 10 weeks in hospital :'(

Kicked in face at football, my teeth came through below my lip, nearly bit my lip off.

Pretty much cut/gashed/lacerated most areas of body / limbs but other than that nothing to report :D

My kneecaps pop out regularly. Hurts like hell for 5 minutes thn its okAwaiting surgery in January.

Happened once when I was crossing from a barge to a ship. If a colleague hadn't caught me on the way down.....I'd a been :crowded:

Rolled both my ankles from riding BMX numerous times, result, torn ligaments in the right ankle, and stretched ones in the left. Broken left wrist 3 times, it now cracks when i move it in a rotation causing me immense pain. Blown both knees out completely, right knee is fixed after some long physio sessions, but left knee had to have surgery after blowing it out for 7th time. New knee cap, new synthetic ACL, PCL and MCL ligaments, bone rebuild and reshape, and Synthetic Cartlidges, upper and lower, and i think the surgeon said inner and outer:thinking:. 6 1/2 hours of surgery, 6 months off work, and so far 1 year and 2 months of physio, oh and 9 months off my bike, the worst part. That's what you get for dropping around 17 - 20 feet to solid concrete. Cracked 4 ribs at the same time, which is a killer as you can't do anything, laugh, cough, breath, move, think about any of those and it hurts like you have never known. Seperated my shoulder joint, torn ligaments again, 2 hours surgery and 4 months physio. Broken pretty much every finger i think except for my right thumb, but that's a thumb not a finger:lol: Broken 4 of my toes. And given myself, in total, 21 concussions from numerous head traumas, and i've lost count of the amount of stitches. This is why i love BMX, i'm not quitting until i'm completely broke or dead:lol::cuckoo::lol::cuckoo::lol:

I play rugby league and a few years back i was Tackled in the air (badly) lacerated my kidney and broke two ribs, one of which found its way in to my lung (makes it hard to breath) but didnt drop the ball ***
Tuck about six months to get right and i still have to pee a lot because of it kidney.

Broke my thumb playing football making a save and landing awkwardly. Very painful when the ref thought it was dislocated and tried to put it back and then found all he had done was changed the direction it was facing.

Tore all the ligaments in my right ankle. I wish I could make up a really strong and brave story but I cant. Ankle just gave way when going down some stairs and next thing you know, my foot is on one step higher than my actual ankle was. The ankle was touching the step below. Very painful but it wasnt broke much to the surprise of the Ambulance Paramedics.

But by far the worst pain I have ever felt was from a Kidney stone which was beginning to pass through. My god that is some serious pain.

Chopped three finger ends off working on a BML 70, stitched back on, but hurt like hell when warming up after they get cold, two are a bit numb as well ( my excuse for crap photos anyway)...............

I know a bloke who sliced all his fingers off with a circular saw one time.
Rushed up the hospital and they said "why didn't you bring the fingers up with you, we could have sewn them back on"
"I couldn't pick them up" he said

:coat:

Broke my wrist playing football, got up and then realised that my hand was dangling sort of lifeless. Then it started hurting.

Broke my foot, playing football.

Dislocated my right thumb................... playing football. Promptly popped it back in, carried on. Thought i better go to A&E when it ballooned up later that day.

Think i should stop playing football really

Stuck my right leg through a shed window once while cutting a tree down and sliced some of the muscle in my leg. Did not hurt but my it bled for england.

I have to agree on the migraine thing, I only get them occasionaly but when I do!!!:shake:

I had my nose broke by an upset bouncer in a nightclub (mistaken identity), I didn't spill a drop of my Hoffmeister either!!
Three punches & a headbutt, I was soooo chuffed with myself!!

One of the most painfull was, after having a shave I used some aftershave balm, rubbed it all in & then put my contacts in before washing my hands!!! :shake::'(:'(:'(

And the last one was a very very hot chilli, it took about 3 days for that "hot poker" effect to go, It felt like I'd been given a napalm supository.

Christ a right bunch of careless buggers you lot!

I've only really had a minor injury in comparison when I was about 5. I had my finger resting in the inner edge of a door frame when someone either opened or closed the door.. trapping my middle finger. The tip was hanging on by not a lot but they never stitched it they just bandaged it which thinking back was a bit strange. Had to dip it in funny liquid that fizzed and was weird. People still call it my sore finger but it doesn't hurt.. just looks weird.

Apart from that only a broken heart :1st: what do I win?

i just came across this and i thought i would revive it by ranting about my **** year. Never really suffered much in terms of injury but in June 2007 2 months into my 20th i was in the Dominican Republic Training for the kitesurfing world tour doing things like this (sorry for the facebook quality:

at about this height

n505802161_362317_5096.jpg

Which is pritty standard stuff, but doing the first move pictured, (kiteloop handlepass), something happened which i cannot quite put my finger on which resulted in this:

n505802161_774838_6948.jpg

n505802161_141513_1458.jpg

Then it re-broke in may of this year but not as bad and im now about 75% recovered

Too bad for me but it got me back onto photography and im now looking forward to combining the two when i get back to the carribean to see what i can do :)

mine was when i fell on my head at work and had months off and physio and still to this day my back isnt 100%

My best friend shot me in the neck with an air-rifle

I bear the scars (entry and exit wounds) to this day :(

I don't get it

Were you actually planing the piece of wood with your gonads?

I trapped my little finger of the left hand in a car door and stupidly just pulled it out instead of opening the door. Resulting in ripping the nail out. Drove to the hospital to see if they could stitch it back in. Which they did and x-rayed it to find out i had broken it too. They did a cracking job of putting it back in. Almost cant tell now.
Accidently set the sleeve of my overalls on fire once whilst welding an exhaust. Didnt know until it got a bit hot! Can't see a lot through welding goggles....

Oh yes, then there was the time I was tapping a rocker shaft back in a BMW cylinder head on a mobile bench and missed the drift and hit myself in the....... with a 2lb hammer. (a ball pein hammer actually!) Now that HURT!

I fell off a cliff face first onto a rock bed below. No damage, just winded. Never broken a bone (not my own anyway ;)).

Fair play, wish i was that lucky this year :'(

New one to add:

I have an ingrowing toe nail. Had it for years, never bothered me. The other week I went outside in my sliipers to see if the moon was out. On coming back in I slipped on the decking bangind said toe on edge of decking. I then couldnt walk fo three days and now have to go to the doctors every week.

A lesson learnt.

If you have a problem, get it sorted!!!

Prolapsed disc three months ago caused by moving a heavy object. Two weeks in hospital, unable to move, 30 tablets a day and resulting bowel problems.
Now down to three tablets a day and moving almost normally.
Pain was absolutely worst I have ever known and I would not wish it, even on my ex wife and she is now dead!
