Flash Trigger, stand and umbrella for me - I want to experiment with portrait shots, and amazong has some cheap stuff on the go :D

Whats yours?

As above but replacing the brolly with a softbox or octobox! Moving to a new flat next month so don't have much cash to spare for new gadget!

Nikon 200mm F2. Cause I sold the last one and miss it :(

BUT - for the first time in years I'm actually SAVING UP for this one. I'll have it soon; and then I'll be after the new 85mm 1.4 or the 24mm 1.4.

It's a cheap game, photography.

Since you've already owned one, I have to assume you know what you're talking about: is it really that much better than the 70-200 @ 200mm, given there's only 2/3 stop difference?
I understand it is very sharp and also appreciate the bokeh at f/2 may well be "out of this world", but that in itself isn't enough to convince me to part with over £3k when I already have the 70-200 f/2.8...

My next toy(s) will be some dull-as-ditchwater studio stuff: light-shaping tools, maybe another monobloc and some collapsable backdrops...
Dull but vital...

My recent toy is an iPad which is great fun and hopefully will be useful. No photographic purchases in the near future though I did have fun playing with a 400 DO this afternoon... Tempting...
What was that DO like? got any pics from it?maybe I do need a new toy.:D

I seem to be collecting pentax M42 primes at the moment:
28mm f3.5,
35mm f3.5,
50mm f1.4,

Have a olympus 28mm f2.8 and vivitar 28mm f2 macro as well, but the OM>EOS adapter ring is a bit shonky.

spent nicely under a ton so far on the Pentax including M42>EOS adapters for them all, would like the 85mm f1.9 (or f1.8) next, that should be long enough for any arty stuff I do on my 20D

then probably a canon 55-250 or if I REALLY like the 35mm pentax then I may get the canon 35mm f2 prime to replace it first.

You don't have to assume I know what I'm talking about. I won't mind.

Those reasons may not convince you to spend £3k on the lens but they are good enough for me. And when paired with the third generation 2x teleconverter they make a nice 400mm F4. Not that I do much wildlife but in the winter when it's quiter it's sometimes nice to go hunt robins....

I'm currently bodging an imitation one of these linky, if it works I'll be diying a more accurate imitation of one.

Also looking at a 500mm lens of some sort (possibly sigma 50-500)

Nick

I think I'd like to concentrate a bit on older bodies, the Pentax-110 is one I'd like to get only because it was something I owned when I was much younger. Wasn't that impressive, but for its' size it was amazing.

On a different level, I think most of my next purchases will be to do with studio lights and modifiers; all though I'm not sure which way to go yet.

Well iv just spend a few quid on a 50mm f1:2 and a 105 dc f2 so I'm spent out for a while but I recon the 24mm tilt and shift or the fixed 14mm ... Both for expanding the landscape kit I'm still deliberating on the 14 fixedmor 14 24 because let's face it il only use it at the widest anyhow and the fixed is lighter!.... Ps pics of my new toys in this forum under new toys.

Only just got my D50 but it's clear I need something a bit more than the 18-55 so something in the 70-200 range is next (probably a Tamron/Sigma), but how soon is another question as I have a wedding to pay for as well.

Mine is a Nikon F5 from Grays. Paid for it, and it should arrive tomorrow! \o/

I got it because I want to combine the quality of glass that I already have, with the 'look' of film. The F5 is built like a tank and basically, pretty awesome in nearly every way... aside from the weight :D

I want an F5 or better still an F6 :)

See, this is interesting... I actually don't want an F6. The price of them is just silly. Whilst it is indeed newer, and has a better CAM system and other bits... I think the F5 looks nicer, is built better, and screams of veteran pro body more than the F6.

Don't get me wrong, if someone gave me an F6, I'd hardly turn it down! :D

I love the idea of EXIF data for a photograph! Having the memory card recording all the settings against the film so that I can then see what the settings were afterwards would be great. On a film camera I would rather not have the grip too. All in all not a lot in it and if I got an F6 I would probably buy an F5 too :)

Hmm, that is a very good point actually. I spose the grip is personal preference.

An F5 AND an F6?! Lol :D I like your style!

There was a brand new F6 on ebay last week for £1400 !!!

My F5 was £345. Bargain from grays imo! £1400 for a 35mm film SLR.... I'd rather an LF setup and a years worth of film for that kind of money!

I only had a breif play in the shop while waiting from some prints to be done, it feels great in the hand and the AF seemed very fast but I didn't have a memory card with me to take test shots. I might try and take it out for a couple of hours and give it a proper test... but that might not be wise as I don't want to want one.

I wouldn't have bought it but it was basically a new camera, new box, all bits still in packaging etc. Basically a museum quality package. I paid £60 for my F80 which had only had 2 films through it from new and was still boxed etc. That was double what they go for and F6 often go for about £700 so about right :)

Short term / likely:

Macbook pro refresh
Better diesel car to replace clio (this is photography related)

Longer term / less likely at the moment:

5D mkII to replace 40D
24-70mm IS upgrade version if it is ever released
100mm IS macro
70-200mm f/2.8 IS II
135mm f2L
35/50mm decent affordable prime if it is ever released

This is all WANT rather than NEED.

Graham has offered me cheap digs in Glasgow for two years. Top man..................:naughty:

85L or 45T/S

Why?

85L - I want that pop and bokeh you get with the 85L that comes from nothing else.

45 T/S - Something different, it'll be fun.

I've got my eye on a Canon 5d mk2, but it's not urgent and maybe a mk3 will turn up before too long.

Why the change?

G.

Didnt want to be tied in to a closed system, the cost of blad HC /HCD lenses, the better quality images from the Phase / Leaf backs, better software Capture one against Phocus, superb customer support.

What are the downsides if shooting for example, hyperactive kids in a studio? Can you shoot untethered, "DSLR" style, multiple shots etc?

A macro and a super wide. Something like the following:

105 f2.8VR macro
Tokina 11-16

Macro (the insect shots I've seen on here are superb) and superwide images have been inspiring me the most lately.

Nothing, no spare cash to buy toys:thumbsdown:

Shall have to learn to use what i have better:thumbs::lol:

Same here mate, I intend to learn how to wring themost out of what I have before buying anything new.

That said though I do need to get myself someform of flash as I have some 20 year old Miranda which is pants..

Nice Nick... what are you bodging it out of ? I bodged one from an EQ1 tabletop mount and pp3 driven motor.

Loads of stuff I would like to buy though:naughty:

bought battery grip from china, they say it will be with me after 21 working days. builds the character and the excitement. first battery grip in my life.
after this - hopefully 70-200mm someday soon, but i have realised I have the basic eq. to take stunning pics, so I'll be focusing on travelling more than on equipment.

oh ! maybe + a ttl flash cord and a side bracket for flash , that'll do .
