What is your most favourite film?

In Bruges was excellent actually. Going to watch Inglourious Basterds tonight too.

i'd be interested in your opinion, I paid good money to watch that and didn't think much to it

Can't really say I have a favourite film, my film of last year without question would be

In Bruges

everybody i've recommended it to has said how much they enjoyed it, it's quite violent but funny and very well written and acted

A review on IMDB made me laugh, an American had written "Colin Farrell plays a convincing Irishman" :bonk:

Lol, how funny.

Brill film, forgot all about it, an 11 out of 10 film score. brutal but heartwarming.

Is it bad or good that I've seen 99% of all the films mentioned. :help::D

Not wanting to spoil it for anybody to much..

I found, I was lead down a road of feeling sorry for the 'chaps' ...only to find that although they discover the horror of their morally disgusting situation...they then leave the rest to face the same.

So at the very end, I found I couldn't give a fig about him after that final ‘jaunt’, in-fact the whole film then simply convey everything that’s bad about human nature ...contempt breeds contempt and to heck with the rest kinda thing.

Which I found Ironic considering the compassion I had for them oh but a few minutes earlier...perhaps that was the point I thought, to show how shallow a human could be.

How did you feel at the end?

No they don't, they go back to earth to break the story...
That's why you can hear news reporters at the end telling the disgusting story of the company, and the other sacrifices himself for the good of the other one.

Did you miss that bit? :p

I think this quote is applicable here: "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."

God damn americans haha.

The story of U571 is rubbish. IMDB synopsis: "A German submarine is boarded by disguised American submariners trying to capture their Enigma cipher machine. "

The actual story?
Boarded by an English captain and a few of his men as the U-110 sub was going down.

Yes I bloody did! ...god-damn bootleg copies, lol ...my film finished just as he rushed of in his craft, after leaving the new one to face the music...

Lol, I'm gonna have to watch the true DVD again now. :bang:

Might be a good movie after all then... :p

Oh that's easy. For me, it only has to be "The Iron Giant". It's a cartoon about a boy who befriends a 100 foot giant robot. It's not so much the quality animation but more to do with the general story. It's ending alway makes me blubber like a girl on PMT.

You're not alone, I was :'( at the end, a brilliantly written film:'(

Fight Club...

The Departed...

About a Boy...

National Lampoons Xmas Vacation...

Jaws...

Funny About Love...

Sea of Love...

THE LIST IS ENDLESS...!!!

 Powerful film ...especially, like me, if you've a brother you haven't spoken to for a while. I have now.

Thought that was gonna be a bit too daft for me ...now I can't wait for the second!!

I rate the garden fence crashing scene as surpassing Delboys fall through the bar.

PMSL every time.

Hot Fuzz I mean, I'm not sure if your referring to something blue. ;)

Hot Fuzz!! Whoops :D

I like fantasy/escapism type films, drama/thrillers and although I hate to admit it, chick flicks :(

Men in Black,
Lord of the Rings
4th July,
The Green Mile
Love Actually

Akira - the best pice of Japanimation going and probably the best mix of design, setting and action going in an animated film. Nearly 3hrs long but worth the time spent. Stunning.

The Blues Brothers
Animal House
Saving Private Ryan (opening scenes blew me away)
Blade Runner
Dead men don't wear Plaid
Young Frankenstein
Lock Stock
Apocalypse Now
Man on Fire
Rise of the Footsoldier
Blackhawk Down
Fight Club
Sin City
Shoguns Assassin
Fist of Fury
James Bond (only older films with gadgets in)
The Deer Hunter
Godfather
Once upon a time in America
Goodfellas
Kill Bill I & II
Casino
Bullit
The Hustler
Batman The Dark Knight
Terminator
Predator

But to choose one favourite movie... hmm let me think about it and I will get back to you on that one

If I was going to be nailed to a tree for not chosing i'd pick The Day The Earth Stood Still ( Michael Rennie)

NOT, the Day The Earth Snored Still ( Keanu Reeves) I was really looking forward to the remake, what a pile of pap it turned out to be

As I also love sci-fi films from the 50s and 60s, I'd agree with that one as well as The Day The Earth Caught Fire (1961) with Leo McKern. As a kid, I used to love The Time Machine (1960) - this is the Rod Taylor version. I still like it, and it's far better than the remake from a few years ago.

For me, I love

Boyz N The Hood (emotionally powerful film)
Pulp Fiction (superb intertwining story's all bought together)
Back To The Future 1 & 2 (No brainer, time traveling car, hover boards, nikes with power laces and a self drying jacket)

Me too.

A few years ago, our local cinema started running some old films. Some Like it Hot on a big screen is great. Especially the bit where Marilyn Munroe is singing whilst sitting/laying on the grand piano!

They also put on The Marx Brothers' A Night at the Opera. That was good on the big screen too.

Steve.

+1 to whoever suggested The Mechanic.
I really enjoyed Once Were Warriors, despite it's rather powerful storyline.
The original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers is one of the few films to carry on freaking me out when I watch it, despite having seen it many times before.

Recently, I think Casino Royale has been the only film to really impress me. After the dross that was "The Brosnan Years", it was nice to see bond back on form.

Brilliant film, I've watched it dozens of times and still laugh out loud!
The first time i watched it i literally spent most of it on the floor laughing/crying uncontrolably! Specially cus i was with friends and we were reinacting the scenes then laughing for ages again.

Serenity.

Brilliant! :)
This film destroyed any chance (real or not) of Firefly returning :( Otherwise id love it! xD

So many great films spring to mind but if I had to choose one it would be 'Deerhunter' whch I think is an abolute masterpiece - superbly cast.

Finally going to see 'A Serious Man' today :p

Typical Coen film - terrible black humour, mundane yet charming characters, a storyline that gets progressively more tangled, and an anti-climatic ending that makes you realise that despite everything, life goes on.

Brilliant, in my opinion. You might have a Picture House cinema local to you, and if so, go and watch it.

So difficult to choose just one, some notable mentions so far Akira, Deer Hunter, Green Mile and numerous others but I am surprised no Kurosawa not a single one and therefore my vote goes for Shichinin No Samurai (7 Samurai),

I loved The Time Machine, and james mason films such as Journey to the centre of the earth

This is a bit of a bargain if you're into classic sci fi

Thanks for that, it's a great box set and at a great price too! I haven't seen This Island Earth for years, but a couple of the other titles do pop up from time to time on Sky. I remember seeing The Incredible Shrinking Man for the first time back in the late 80s/early 90s when BBC2 used to have a film show called "Moviedrome" which screened a number of cult films. Alex Cox presented a couple of series and gave a brief introduction to each film being shown, and this was one of them. I think Invasion Of The Body Snatchers may have been another.

I love the trick photography and special effects they used in these old films, even though they may appear a little dated today. I find them more entertaining than many modern blockbusters which just seem to be too dependent on CGI effects.

I fully agree with you regarding Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, with James Mason - a terrific film.

it has to be "A time to kill" matthew mcconnaghys closing speach in the courtroom at the end, gets me blubbing every time. i know im 27 and male but i dont care.....

second to that its "where eagles dare"

Sounds good.

There's a local cinema near where I live which sometimes has seasons in which they show a selection of 'classics'. So I intend to see as many of my favourite films as possible on the big screen - more in line with how they were originally shot to be viewed.
