Over the last ten days or so I have been experimenting with different bedroom positions...... I used to sleep on my stomach but after listening to a radio program on sleep pattern I decided to give the variations a go.......to my surprise my insomnia is not as bad when I sleep in a foetus like position.......I am getting at least 6 hours sleep now........what's your position? And do you think if you change it would you sleep any better? Monday's first thought of the week......

There has been some trouble in the bedroom lately. I've tried everything possible to sort it out and a lot of experimenting, even creams.

My sore back just won't go away;) lol. I pulled a muscle last week and it's still causing me trouble on a night, can't seem to get comfy and I'm only sleeping for about 2hours a night.

Ok sensible now, although with that title on a Monday morning it's a struggle!

I sleep half tummy half side, I suffer awful back problems since a teenager and can often wake with pain, so anything that's comfortable at the time.

I usually fall asleep in the recovery position on my right side and very often wake in the same position. The only time I can remember sleeping in other positions was for the few weeks after the op when the scar over the top of my head was a bit sensitive to have my hand under so I slept on my back (and snored worse than my usual volume!) Tried the Tudor position (sat up in bed) while I was in hospital with the electric bed but didn't sleep very well - probably because I wasn't the only snorer on the ward and also because they checked my BP etc. on a 2 hourly basis for a few days after they had removed the drain. I could go to sleep on my left side but that would put my snores closer to Mrs Nod's lug'oles...

My wife has a frozen shoulder thats been going on for two years now. She's had all sorts of treatment but it's still bad which means her only comfortable position to sleep is on her back. Great for her, but the snoring...

Mrs Nod wear ear plugs every night... Apparently the cat snores!

On my left, recovery positon style. Except when ive got a cold, and my brain tells me to lie on my back to amplify the snoring :D

Bedrooms should be out of bounds for all pets. There has to somewhere they aren't allowed, says me coming home sometimes to the dog on the sofa or sleeping at the foot of our bed keeping my wife company.

Which probably brings us back to this old photo, taken on holiday after we'd worn out both dog and youngest

The 3rd bedroom is OOB for her unless she's closely supervised. Not used as a bedroom now - it's where my desktop computer lives and has loads of cr@p over all available surfaces for her to knock off! We did try keeping her as a downstairs cat at night but she scratched the hell out of the sitting room carpet by the door (now laminate floored!) and howled so we relented. She takes up as much bed as she's allowed but does seem to sleep through most nights until at least 6am. TBH, I quite like being woken by a gentle tapping on the arm unless her claws need clipping!

Left side - right side - left side etc - whichever is least painful. Both of my hips are shot.

With ref to the frozen shoulder - have you tried acupuncture? As someone with scientific training I know it shouldn't work but did for me. 3 Sessions in 3 weeks and sorted after 2 yrs of valiant efforts by NHS.

My dog (Ella the labradoodle) doesn't know that upstairs exists. All floors downstairs are laminate and all up carpeted

Not acupuncture but massage in Thailand helped a lot whilst we were there, but nothing in the UK as yet.

All out downstairs in wood or tile. Carpet starts on the stairs, so the dog sleeps on the top of the stairs during the day as it's where the heating pipes run closest.

What's a bedroom?

It's where you banish the kids to when you want some peace and quiet

What the heck do you have then?

plinth full of nails in the cellar probably ;)

I'm a left side/right side sleeper too, semi foetal you might call it, not totally curled up but just enough for comfort/balance. Can't sleep on my back and usually wake again within 10 mins of sleeping on front with my shoulders complaining.

Or maybe his wife drugs his dinner and he doesn't leave the sofa ;)

I normally sleep on my side but because I get a sore back and shoulders because of work I started to sleep on my stomach too. The only draw back to that though is pins and needles in my hands.

Yes I get that too, it's awful when it's both hands

Front of cave, back of cave.

To all my 'fellow bad back'ers' when I am having a bad time, I put a pillow under my knees when sleeping on my back. It takes the pressure of the lower back.

@ Byker28i, has your wife tried a chiropractor. A few years ago, whilst waiting for my operation I went to one 3 times a week. It cost me more than I was getting in sick pay, but was a lifeline for me in a time of darkness. I am still under treatment from the NHS, but, in all the years I have received different forms of help, the one thing the NHS doesn't recognise, is the one thing which gives me immense relief..........
+1 on acupuncture too, I've tried it and it was good.
