What is your exercise of choice?

The good news is that I am picking up my gym routine again, albeit slowly, with a jog/walk for an hour on sundays. I've quit the endless diet cokes the past two weeks, and cut my coffee to one in the morning, opting for green tea instead. Out have gone the cheese and biscuits at 9 pm too. I seem to be less successful in cutting out the vodka at weekends .... but it's one of the better drinks, calorie wise.

Dont let it get you down Louise, sounds like your doing fine again. Everyone goes into slumps now and again, I am in mine right now! :D

but the other that hacks me off is when you get a small group of 2-4 with a massive selection of dumbells then spend 20min chatting between sets!

I see this all the time at my gym which just puts me right off using weights. Another thing that makes me feel very uncomfortable, as a woman, is when I'm using the thigh machine and there is a mammoth of a man across from me shouting and grunting as he is lifting weights with 10 veins in his head ready to explode! Makes me want to :coat:

I'm fortunate in that using the works gym, I usually have it to myself first thing in the morning when I'm on early shift and when I'm training before a late shift, there aren't that many people in the gym and if there is a few people, they are on their 1/2 hr lunch break so have little time to stand around chatting.

Yeah i do miss that aspect of a work gym, but love the fact where i am theres the chance to learn new things, and some of the classes, and er :naughty: are quite nice.

Wouldnt let the numptys put you off weights, must admit the gym i go to has a womens only section. Cant say i grunt, and deffo not that many vains in my head, but do get that problem with my arms. But you cant avoid that at less then 8% bodyfat which is required for that cover model abbs that 90% of women seem to love.

When I first started weight training over 20 yrs ago there was a rather lovely young lady that worked in the gym I went to. She was using the thigh machine and it was off putting for every bloke in the gym. She certainly put When Henry Met Sally's Meg Ryan to shame with her moans and groans.

Oh dont start on the body fat %, I live with a bodybuilder and lived with two other ones before that. We have a pyramid of whey protein tubs slowly building in the kitchen! :D

 Must have been quite a thigh machine!

Well I am away to speak to my gym about cutting my membership down to off-peak. The classes at my gym alone could probably justify it. We'll see how it goes!

Cheers. I think, with this depressing winter, there is a tendency for all but the most ardent gym goers to slack off somewhat. Now I know what kettlebells are - cheers.

I'm looking into joining a David Lloyd gym ten mins from campus - but have a suspicion that they do not advertise their gym prices on-line as they are ridiculous. Am I right? Meanwhile, I am making do with the uni gym, which is ... basic ... and I do like a pool, jacuzzi etc - but I'd be loathe to pay more than approx £50 a month.

Or, does anyone have a weights set up at home? I am moving house next month, and find myself with a garage, which looks like a decent enough space to put weights in. I'm just a bit unsure where to start ....

Cycling and running for me, with a bit of swimming chucked in there, which adds up nicely to my preferred sport of triathlon with a particular weak spot for the long distance stuff.

lol, yeah never seen the point in bodybuilding either, dispite my build, which is mostly down to my job tbh. More an areobic sport's person, although i keep getting told later i should think about getting into bodybuilding, think its funny in that i keep getting asked what i do for my abs, answer nothing really, apart from a dance based class. Most give  look then more :cuckoo:

Does humping a camera about count as excercise
The wife said I should get into shape. I told her I already am, this week my shape seems to be like a potatoe :D

I have a kitchen cupboard full of various tablets, some I could never even pronounce:lol: but my whey protein is ordered in 5kg bags. I have them sitting in a couple of boxes, they are delivered in, in the kitchen. My wife is forever moaning about them, especially when I order more, she just doesn't understand I need the next bag there ready, when the one I'm using is about to run out.:cuckoo::lol:

Yep! My Protien, My wife has now taken up weight lifting on account of the weight of the boxes when their delivered.

A good honest hard days graft does me

It used to be running. But, I'd say since the Autumn that's stopped. It's depressing. I now have to stop every five minutes or so, and have slowed right down. Now, I know I can get back to where I was, but feel quite ashamed of myself for letting myself go - I have no excuse, I know how exercise is worthwhile, and what foods to eat.

I have also gained about ten pounds - not an enormous amount, but again, it's depressing since I worked quite hard to get to where I wanted to be. Not just about weight, but about being healthy. I am supposed to be going on a beach holiday in a month and do not want to look a right podge on said beach.

....

I can relate to that all this bad weather / illness scuppered my (regular) jogging for weeks if not months, i too have put on about half a stone and when i got out for a run for the first time in what must be almost 2 months earlier this week it made me realise how quickly you lose what took months to work up to. I don't exactly run far, 3 miles give or take, but damn i knew i hadn't been out for a few weeks. I suffered when i played 5 a side last night too for the first time in a while

lol she'l thank you for it one day. Properly the best place for the stuff i have found

I used to get bored with the gym easily after a while. But got into classes and it makes the world of difference!!

So now I have a combination of gym, swimming, cycling, pilates.... but if I get bored and need motivation, I have Spin Fit, Legs Bums and Tums, Body Balance etc :) The classes really have made a difference on those 'just can't be arsed' days!

:agree: Classes are a great way to keep motivated. Body Pump especially! I am going to start on Pilates next week again, my posture is terrible.

I ride and look after the horses, in summer I cycle as there are loads of tracks around here and I sometimes go walking on the hills. Thinking of starting to play squash again as there are a few courts around here but I need to find a bit more energy first
