Well i think its a serious step forward for Russians, ..... i mean that they tried to advertise sth....... when few decades ago they would simply "force" people to visit that "lovely" beach.
Seriously for understanding of WILD EAST lots of patience and positive thinking is needed, otherwise there is a great chance of becoming next suicidal novelist.
Poor donkey.......but then, ...he got ride of his life ;)

Before I post what I'm about to post let me clarify, yes its disgusting, its incredibly insensitive and the people responsible should be shot in my opinion.

Ok, this is too far, but we are all becoming a bit too obsessed with animals imo. A guy in the paper trapped a grey squirrel on his land and has been fined £1500 for disposing of it. :cuckoo:

What next, a fine for using a mousetrap? This guy had been punished far more excessively that a yob caught with a knife, or many petty crime acts.

Many petty crime acts don't result in a prolonged and torturous death for an animal, which bear in mind we as humans, are.

It's not the disposing of the squirrel that's the issue here. You should of pointed out in your post that the article actually says he drowned the squirrel. Now that's not on. I've done my fair share of pest control, so I'm not some city boy with no idea what country life is like. I just know that I wouldn't torture an animal to death. One shot in the head, or a swift hit with a blunt object would of worked, minimal pain and suffering for the animal.

that would be because those who havent been trained to do it properly often take more than one hit to kill the animal, imagine someone trying to kill you with one swift hit, but the first didnt do the job so they had to hit you again, or maybe even 3/4 times. If you have pests that need to be killed they should be killed by someone who knows what they are doing IMO.


as with the OP seems similar to a few stories of late. :( was one i read last week where a guy has "taught" his dog to deep sea dive! poor thing scrabbles about and whines but the guy says "i dont think he dislikes it" honestly why else would the dog be whining its head off- no idea how he expels the excess air in the specially made suit :cuckoo:
 
im sorry, but I can't stop laughing.

Firstly the way it shoots off, and secondly imaging it thinking "ooh, I can see my barn from up here!"

That fine for disposing or a squirrel is disgusting. They're vermin, how can you be fined for it!? It would be like me getting a fine for shooting a pigeon!
 
So Luke, surely mousetraps are cruel too. Mice are not always killed quickly that way.

Cruel yeah. Of course they are. Hey. Eating meat is cruel, but I love it. Just because something is cruel it doesn't mean it isnt necessary. Tell me that killing an animal isnt cruel. Every death is "cruel", but that doesn't change anything really. It's still needed sometimes, like in the case of meat.

Mousetraps are pretty cruel in my opinion. I had a mouse issue, used a live catch trap, released it a mile or so from home. If I was having a real issue with them, I'd use live traps, then kill them when I found them, rather than leaving them for hours bleeding slowly to death.

I just like to avoid suffering for an animal if it has to die. What's wrong with that?

Grey squirrels are classed as vermin and as far as I am aware, land owners are allowed to capture them and destroy them.
So was he fined for killing it or the method of disposable that he used?

Killing an animal for food isn't quite the same as putting a live donkey on a parachute is it?

No longer can a molecatcher use poison, not for an animal welfare reason but for an environmental reason, they now have to use wire traps and they are far more gruesome than mousetraps in my opinion but less painful than poison.

I do not like animals suffering, but I have no qualms using wire mole traps as that has to be balanced against the enormous damage and mess they cause.

Skyline thanks for pointing that out and in my opinion they guy got what he deserved, he should have use a humane method.

I absolutely never compared them. Read what I wrote more carefully please. Never wrote anything like that. Ever. Sorry if you weren't being accusatory or anything, I just don't want to be put in a bracket with the kind of people that find that funny, or entertaining, even if by accident!

If suffering to the animal is kept to a minimum, I have no issue with farmers and the like using wire traps. If they are genuinely a quicker kill, a more painless kill, than poison, then that's what should be used. I'm not against hunting for food, or stopping pests, I just feel it should be done in the most painless, humane way possible at all times. I've had some horrible experiences with animals that I've not managed to kill with the first shot, takes the pleasure out of hunting for your own food when you have to go up to a screaming animal and finish the job manually.

I'm not a supporter of fox hunting at all though, but let's not get into that. Too much confrontation.

Nah. I cant deny I did grin a little when i saw the donkey flying, and i openly laughed listening to the Russia Today presenter try and describe the story. So long as you don't condone the actions, and don't wish the animal any suffering, it's all good.

You don't find this type of thing funny but you admit to grinning?
I point blank refuse to watch the video and in my mind anyone totally against animal cruelty wouldn't be tempted to watch it.

So I'm for animal cruelty because I thought the sight of a donkey on a parachute was quite surreal and funny for a second or so? I smiled because it was such a surreal sight, am I for what happened? No. Do I agree with it in any way whatsoever? No. Do I wish nothing but bad things to the perpetrators? Of course. I don't even kill flies in my own home. I'm as anti animal cruelty as possible. Still, your allowed your own judgment.

I'm not judging and I don't actually believe that have any support for animal cruelty, I had already worked that out.
I should have used a smiley as I wasn't being serious :)
 
How can people be so stupid? It surely has to be stupidity to put an animal in that situation ... not even all humans like going up in one of those things ITS A DONKEY NOT A TOY ... so angry how people can be so careless and out of this will be publicity but i truely hope its in a bad way but I fear not.
Cruelty is on the uprise for all animals and its a very real thing that people should be looking at preventing!
The difference to killing "vermin" to putting an animal under undue stress is slightly different but I agree is also something that should be addressed ... EDUCATION is truely needed for humans to start behaving in a human manner!

Sort of. He was given a 6 month Conditional Discharge as his sentence - i.e. no punishment at all, unless he commits another offence within 6 months. The "fine" was because the RSPCA made a successful application to have him pay their prosecution costs.
 
How do they know it was in distress? Just because it was naying loudly it could have been calling out to it`s mate`s on the beach :shrug:
