Kk i am guessing this is a problem with my camera's viewfinder or inner mirror. basically whenever i take a photo while looking through my viewfinder the picture is off centered from what i saw.

here is an example of what happened to me today

so the shoes where in the center right however when i was able to see the photos i noticed they werent in proper place

so what could be wrong with my camera?? and is it a big problem or something that can be fixed quite simply?

thanks for reading

Very odd - if the mirror was not in the correct position then I would expect a black area in the viewfinder and a foul crunching sound when taking a shot!

Sorry - really got no idea on that one unless you inadvertently moved the camera as you pressed the shutter. You could rule that out by mounting on a tripod.

 ok, assuming you havent inadvertently moved the camera as you pressed shutter, have you looked at the focus plate, above the mirror, to see if that has become some how dislodged and might indicate further problems. Have you actually checked the position on mirror when lens is off? Does it look in anyway wonky or out of position? I would expect a misaligned mirror to cause issues when you press shutter though - noises and/or the black areas Phil mentioned. Very odd one indeed.

My understanding is that the CCD sensor in the A200 moves as part of the stability system. It looks to me like the sensor has somehow parked off-centre. Have you bashed or dropped the body by any chance?

silly q, please don't take offence but its easiest to rule the simple stuff out first

are you looking through the viewfinder straight? Glasses or something might push you off axis and block the side of the image from your eye?

I was using a tripod and dnt wear glasses and when testing the camera upright it was completely straight

I am going to call sony tomorrow if i ever get through

I had a guy once finding that all his shots were off centre from how he viewed them in the viewfinder. It transpired he was one of those people who put his left eye to the viewfinder. This means your right thumb comes between your right cheek and the body of the camera causing you to be holding it at an angle. I'm not sure if it's relevant to your problem?

As CT has said it may be beneficial to get a second opinion just to double check it isn't user error. Chances are you're doing everything right but I know personally I'm always making silly mistakes that you kick yourself for in the end.

is image stabilisation turned off? Don't know if it could cause it but it's worth ruling out.

I know of someone who had this problem with a Sony camera (don't recall the model) and it was indeed because of this. It had to go back to Sony for repair.
