What is Topaz, and what does it do?

Yes
I've been offered a legit copy of Topaz, which I'm told I must have. But what does it do and what are it's benefits? I've read the advertising blurb, but that tells me very little. I use Elements 9 and have the Colour FX suite as well. Is Topaz any use to me at all?

I poped around a mate who has topaz and had a play, it's had topaz ajust 4 one of the presets (can't remember which one) then topaz denoise, which wasn't bad to be honest, finally it went through I think was topaz focus (something like that) the sharpening one anyway, which was a bit strong on the full size but looks ok on this size, again just used a preset as I don't know the slider to play with .
Bottom ones obviously the topaz one.

Topaz is a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine with the chemical formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2. Topaz crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and its crystals are mostly prismatic terminated by pyramidal and other faces. :)

Here's a picture that shows what topaz adjust can do.

I can't see the effect? I'm guessing its supposed to be HDR? what was the before picture like? I do see a huge amount of noise in what was probably deep shadow before hand (i.e. on the top right of the car, rear wheel arch, etc)

I think that car photo thing is horrible:thinking:
the shadow from the lad on the left has run over the cat's tail! and the guy on the right appears to have lost his :bonk:

The shadow from the guy on the left is quite wierd. He's got a sort of black halo all round him. There's a bit of a feel that some of the guys have been photoshopped in, although I presume they haven't.

It was an experiment of photo merging and my first attempt at it. I set the tripod up for an hour and captured a number of images to work with. There are 6 photographs layered there and I wanted to see what I could do. With a bit of practice I'm sure I'll master it.

I think Terry's version is the more appealing of the two, but then I'm not a fan of overblown HDR anyway.

It's one of the 2 hdr presets in topaz (the others marginally better) that said you can ajust them to suit, that one is totally OTT I aregree... bit of fun though.

If somebody would like to post a photo here I'll put it through Topaz to see what it can do.
can Topaz make my kitchen as clean as yours? :D
