What is this black mark?

Had my camera a few months, just noticed tonight that there is this black mark center left. changed lenses and cleaned everything and its still there. any way to tell what it is? dust?

its gets more in focus with f22 than f1.8, if that helps identify it? here is a picture:

It's dust on your sensor for sure - something you do have deal with from time to time with digital cameras. It does show up more at smaller apertures.
 
looks like crap on the sensor give it a blow with a rocket blower.........

i have wiped it with cloth which was a bad idea as there is now more dust on there. tried blowing on it. dont know much about the insides of camera, where is the sensor? that diagonal mirror bit?
 
ah its gone, took a picture without a lens on and blew when the shutter went... bad idea? its gone now anyway.
 
Nope, the sensor is behind that. Touching the inside of the camera with anything is a very bad idea unless you really know what you're doing. Don't blow on it either - that can be just as bad.

Next time, buy a rocket blower. Something I need to get myself.
 
The sensor is behind the shutter where you can't see it. You have to select sensor cleaning mode in the menus, which opens the shutter for you to see the sensor.

Don't ever touch the mirror with anything - unlike conventional mirrors, they're silvered on the surface and it's easy to permanently mark them.
 
cool thanks. but how is the rocket blower different from blowing yourself?
 
And don't touch that silver thing at a angle - its the silvered side of a mirror and scratches very easily, you sensors below that, read the manual and look for mirror lock up .

It's more powerful and there's no danger of depositing a huge gob of spit inside your camera. Don't ask me how I know this. ;)

And don't ask me, either. Never done it with a camera though (and don't intend to). :)

Supposedly not, but I read a post on the DPReview forums of a guy who did exactly that to his sensor just before a shoot and claimed it came out fine.

I'd have to be really short of time before the most important shoot of my life with the dirtiest sensor in the world to be forced into doing that.
 
Plus if you keep a blower in your pocket, it'll give your fingers something to play with !
