What is the smallest lightest "useful" tripod?

Cheers for the reply.

The Gitzo looks like a good tripod. but this one weights 900g and that one is 1400g! so for that reason I will discount it and nothing to do with the £735 price tag! If I was spending that kind of money I would be getting some Voigtlander primes! :D

I've got a gorilla pod. I attach my flash gun to it. but It I put my D60 on it with my lightest lens it still suffers from impotence! Its 90% gimmick in my book.

Cheers Stuart

I've got one of these, lovely little thing, very small & light, legs extend to a good length, being light weight though you need to be careful what weight you put onto it, I'll happily put my 400D but only with a short light weight lens, but great for P&S & bridge cameras

I'd say go for it, I've had one for about 2 years and it's had some serious abuse. It's light weight, compact and strong, infact so strong I've used it to give people a leg up on to walls etc before. My head is just starting to get a bit lose but after the best part of two years of pretty regular use it's to be expected. £40 every couple of years for a new one is naff all. Best tripod for that kind of money imo.

i have one of those little manfrotto modo's and used it very successfully for my 400d it is very good for its purpose, but wouldn't use it for my 5d2 and a 200mm L.

its the best tripod in its league.

Cheers guys. I was in Jessops today. I ended up looking at this:
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77072/show.html

The bag is rubbish but I like the idea of the tripod being stored internaly I would make things allot easer

The other set up I looked at was this tripod
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76932/show.html
wit this head
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/22710/show.html

This set up felt really nice but I was still a bit worried it ends up being a bit bulky to carry around.

Advice greatly appreciated

Stuart

I've got a wee tripod ( Hama ) here that you're welcome to in exchange for a Grande Latte/pint...

Cheers Graham

That is a very generous offer. It fits in with my preferred budget as well! :D

It would be nice to meet up again and have a chat. Are there any other meetings planned in the near future? I'm always up for a pint.

I'm sure we could get something organized - any suggestions for something to do/somewhere to go?

For really small and light I use this - http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/ProductDetails~man~Velbon~productID~7494~categoryid~178.html - but I swap the Manfrotto 468MGRC2 head from my big tripod to it so that I maintain RC2 QR plate compatibility. It will fit in a coat pocket and has supported a gripped 50D, 100-400 and 1.4X teleconverter, and given me sharp results. Here it is with a fairly serious load on it....

For not quite so small and not quite so light I use this - http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/ProductDetails~man~Slik~productID~8464~categoryid~189.html - and once again use the 468MGRC2 head from my larger tripod (Manfrotto 055MF3).

Here it is with an old Manfrotto 308RC head....
