Hey Guys,

Just wondering. How does the size of a umbrella affect the result of using a speedlite with it?

What is the ideal size for a speedlite/portable flash?

I am assuming that the bigger you go the more difficult you have because you are trying to defuse a small lighter source over a large surface area. But does this give soft light but you need the umbrella closer to the subject to be affective?

Also, how much does the type of umbrella you have make, i.e. silver, gold, white reflective and shoot through?

I have Jessops 360AFD Flash and I am wondering (before I buy anything) what a good size umbrella (white reflective & shoot through) would be with it.

Matt

I've used a 580exII in a 60" brolly :p

I'd go for a calumet dual duty (shoot through white with a silver cover) 36" umbrella with a calumet nano stand and umbrella adapter, cheap, delivered to your door and the small umbrella is fairly wind stable
