... received one of the new £5 notes tonight. What a terrible idea. Feels horrible and just like kids play money. Just doesn't feel nice at all.

Hope this doesn't carry forward to the 10 and 20.

It's going to....eventually all notes.
Use of the material in Australia for many years has proved that the notes last a considerable time longer than "paper" notes, and has saved billions through not having to reissue as often.
You'll get used to it.

You can now wash your money with your jeans :D

and its not just the durability, those notes have some fantastic anti counterfeit measures buildin. i like them

Polymer is the future.

It's a massive headache atmo since every business needs their equipment 'upgraded' to accept the notes and of course they all want it done right now!

Thumbs up from me, much nicer than filthy creased up paper notes..

If anyone feels very oppsed to any paper money I will be more than happy to dispose of them responsibly at my nearest photography shop

Fabs does that work? I am still bartering goods your system sounds a good idea.
We had plastic notes but for some reason went back to paper ( N.Ireland)

It's money. I like it no matter how it looks or feels!

10s and 20s are coming next May IIRC

i love them, think they're really good compared to the tattered fivers i always end up getting.

only negative is that they static together a bit sometimes and can be hard to separate them.

It's going to make burying your cash so much safer. You can dig it out of the ground a hundred years later without worrying it will rot away.:D

That's a good way of getting your garden dug over!
Quite like them myself, and I'm an old fart!

in a world where we are all about saving the planet i am happy for less making paper notes but not so happy with polymer which is of course oil based.

Traditional notes aren't made with wood derived paper, they're made with cotton paper, often mixed with linen and other textiles, but not wood, so the tree huggers can relax. :-)

Tree Huggers can suck my plums they all drive cars and most shop at Sainsburys :)

I'm sure that's an offer they give a great deal of consideration to.
The fruitarians, at least.

(Is there something amiss with driving a car and shopping at Sainsbury's?)

Still not had one. Do they stick to each other? I read this could be a issue.

Can't get a decent print using an inkjet on clingfilm - harder to forge the buggers!

Look at the daft prices new fivers go for on eBay, especially first print runs with the numbers starting with AA01

Brings a whole new meaning to laundering your cash :D

Ive never had one of the new notes but to be honest it wont bother what its made of.

It all spends the same, although I expect the new fivers will get spent faster than the old (due to the inevitable price increases of almost everything!) Cash is merely a tool rather than an end in itself.

I remember people moaning just as much . When they changed from the large white fiver to the smaller ones.

1 pint of black dragon and a pak of posh crisps.

When what do I do with all the white fivers under the bed?

I am not allowed real money in case I cut myself.....

I have to say , there are some rather wonderful ciders coming out of Wales.
Sorry. Back on topic.

well done that man. Gwynt-a-draig for prime minister.
are you a afan?
