Yes
You have aerial photography, underwater photography, elevated photography, timelapse photography...........but what do you call 'normal' photography?

I take elevated photography, but also undertake 'normal' photography............but I can't put 'normal' photography on my website

I take elevated photography, but also undertake 'normal' photography

What's 'normal'?

Portrait, landscape, seascape, candid, street, sport, studio...

Not sure there is a specific name for ‘normal’ photography, I maybe proved wrong though

Only word I can think of that would suit is ‘conventional’

I say the say as DD

Photography also to me covers it all

Tony

Nope - all wrong

'Normal' is just "Photography"

Everything else is a sub-division of "Photography", hence needs another word to describe it more specifically

IMHO of course

DD

:agree::agree:

I think that works for me, thanks.

The problem is, I can't have two buttons on my website like this:

Elevated Photography Photography

......where as

Elevated Photography Conventional Photography

....works for me.

Eh?????? :shake:

Surely that would be...

"Photography: Elevated & Conventional"

or

"Photography, including Elevated Photography"

Therfore everything must be a sub-division and the term "photography" is just an all encompassing generic word.

Yes, but I need to add buttons to my website: what would I call the two buttons?

General would be good enough?

Nope because every shot is a type of shot.:p:lol: and can therefore be categorised.

That doesn't work either - consider a walk around a pond taking a few shots...

Telephoto Natural History Photography of the duck?

Macro Floral Photography of the Bull Rushes?

Landscape Photography of the whole pond?

Natural History & Action Photography panning the incoming duck?

Candid Portrait Photography of the family feeding the ducks?

I'd call it all 'Photography' - but it you went out to ONLY do one of the above then a sub-class would make sense in how you describe what you're doing

DD

How about something simple like...

Elevated

and

Other

Covers all I'd say.

Call me stupid, but what exactly is elevated photography ?

In my opinion photography is the sort of photography that I do, and I'm sometimes quite taken aback to ndiscover there are other branches. Its amazing how specialised photogs have become ....

Normal as in the photographs that everyone takes: Vernacular Photography.

Normal as in the photographs that photographers take for the hell of it that don't fit the hard and fast categories: I've heard called Misc Photography, General Photography, Casual Photography and just "Photography" on its own; I'd chose the lattermost of the four options.

JumboBeef, that avatar is ok once you know that's a pole with a camera on top but if you don't it just looks like a couple of trees, a car and a flag/telegraph pole

up and down  :D

That could just be a winner, or spread on a human palm, a Blue Pill and a Red Pill. Something more stylized and less obvious.

I need a bigger avatar!

Good setup mate. I have looked at a few of these things and it seems a black art indeed.

I would call your other photography "commercial" as this is an understood term and re-iterates that you charge - you know how people forget that :D

Although personally I find the term "elevated" a bit strange.:)

Some people call it Gound-based aerial Photography (photography taken from a helicopter which doesn't take off maybe? ) but I think the term Elevated Photography is best.

Just don't buy a cheap set up from eBay: someone will be killed by one of those one day.

Actually, a small rant: Google 'Elevated Photography' and you will see a number of companies...........and about 99% of these use P+S cameras and have no experience in Photography. They just point and shoot and hope for the best. AND a lot of 'their' photos on their websites have been purchased from stock, yet they sell their services based on these images

...but that implies the Elevated side is not commercial..........

Not necessarily so. You have the problem with "elevated" photography in that few understand the term. Indeed I have seen services like yours offered as "low-level aerial photography". No doubt in a bid to get it more easily understood by potential clients. Commercial photography is an understood term.

Perhaps you should change your idea about a two-button access and instead just feature the main selling point of your business in your elevated photography and drop in text here and there that reminds people that you are capable and willing to undertake other types of work.

Good luck with your efforts!

Thanks. That is (more or less) what I have done.

I don't use the word 'aerial' at all, because (to me at least) aerial means 'up there, looking down' and most of my photography is looking across:

And a good shot it is too! Let us know when the site goes live.
