Yes
I'm looking out of my window right now and there are all these perfect fluffy clouds.

I've noticed a lot that during the day you get these really characteristic skies with nice cloud formations.

But during most evenings, it's nothing like that. The clouds just all clump together more often than not and produce a really boring sky.

Is there some physics to explain why the skies are much nicer during the day to the evenings?

of course not every evening is like this, but the majority of evening skies are worse than days and I wonder why that is?

Completely off topic but wow I'ev made a mortal enemies list - I feel honoured

Back on topic - I'd not say I'd noticed although if there were differences would it possibly be due to the difference in temperatures during the day. I'd expect it to be more to do with weather conditions though.

Still just for you Joe: http://cloudappreciationsociety.org/

my mortal enemy replied first!

I keep noticing, because like last night i was thinking about going out but i gradually watched the sky become much less interesting as the evening went on.

look, this is the sky right now, lovely fluffy clouds

i'll take another one at around 7.30 this eve and show you the difference

so you think the temperature does it?

I would image it is to with the temperature & air pressure:shrug:

How do you get a mortal enemy?:D

my mortal enemies are ones on here who often disagree with me when they know i always like to be right

More to do with moisture content in the air, atmospheric conditions, temperatures.

What is certain is that when waiting patiently for a sunset with just a few clouds, it's guaranteed a huge cloudbase will roll in, enveloping all traces of sunlight.

Only until it was pointed out to us about our responsibilities to some members. Care in the community.... ;) :D:D

The clouds you show in the image above are cumulus clouds. Typpically they are formed on sunny days as the result of the sun heating up the ground. This in turn heats the air above the ground until a point is reached where a bubble of warm air detaches itself and starts to rise - also known as a thermal, as used by glider pilots to stay airborne. As the bubble of air, or thermal, rises it starts to cool until it reaches dew point. Dew point is the stage where the water moisture carried by the thermal starts to condense, due to the lowering temperature, giving us the fluffy clouds.

The reason they dissipate in the evening is because the ground is no longer being warmed sufficiently to create thermals.

very interesting!

I know exactly what you're saying about the clouds. Here in the midlands, we seem to have a nice clear lunch/afternoon, and when I get home, the sky is bland. Glad it's not just me then! Btw, I was expecting the words "the simpsons" to appear when I saw that picture posted above

Where was the photo Joe.
P.S. meant to ask - which one are you on? :D

oh yeah i forgot to take it!

well the clouds are the same right now today so i'll try and remember to take one tonight to show the difference!

i'm top right

you didn't fix nuffin you just gave me terrible grammar

LOL, yeah, when I read it back, I realised how awful it looked, but as it is in your quote, I am hoping people think it is your grammar!
