What is it about toll plazas.....

The new mustang is an excellent car for traffic light grand prix's. Was quite fun in the evening in vegas as the locals played occasionally. Someone had a fast and furious replica
I liked our rental, good car

It's not a Mustang any more IMO. It's too good.. as silly as that sounds. It's not a muscle car any more. Too refined, and too well mannered.

Did you have the V8 or that ridiculous 4 cylinder version? Can't see any 5.0 badge on the front wing.

It could have been the V6.
Nothing ridiculous about 4 cylinders, if they can still chuck out 315PS.

But if you don't want a lack of manners and a loss of refinement, there's always the GT350R

Love Ben Collins reaction at the end.

2.3l ecoboost amazing engine, as recommended as it was half the price of the v8 we had before.
Easy to drive and poodle about in, but put it in sport and play silly and it was fun. Then the handling was amazing for a yank car. In yosemite and the 30mph roads, 6am in the morning with no traffic around it easily corners at faster than that.

I'm the same, but if can be almost any set of lights, my JCW does attract the odd challenge [emoji12]

A) Can't afford a GT350 :) B) Yeah, it's a fabulous machine.. utterly... but it uses the Voodoo V8, which is a flat plane crank engine, so sounds a bit poo. Doesn't even sound like a V8 in my opinion. I don't care how fast it is.. it sounds crap. Sound is important to me, and many others too.

No.. nothing wrong with the Ecoboost, and yes, it chucks out over 300 BHP... it's not about power though. If I wanted brute power, I'd have not bought the Mustang. A 4cyl engine in a Mustang is just wrong.... and sounds crap as well. We had that with the Mustang 2 in the 70s, and the 2.3 Turbo Fox Mustangs in the 80s. I get why it's been done, and I even approve of it, as it will keep the Mustang alive through difficult times. I just have no interest in it. An American muscle car should have a big, lazy 90 degree V8... the end :) The Coyote 5.0 engine is a great unit though. It's essentially the same one that was used from 2010 onwards. If I was to have a change of heart, the 5.0 Coyote powered Mustang is the only sensible choice.

Still... too many electronic nannys... too civilised and refined. It's now too much a sports car, and not enough of a muscle car. Don't get me wrong... it's fabulous. Just not what I'd want from a Mustang... not what I bought one for.

I certainly wouldn't have one in RHD, even though they're now made for this market... again... it's diluting the whole experience of what an American muscle car is about.

The bottom line is: You either get it.... or you just don't. If you don't.... then fair enough, but you'll never convince those that do otherwise, so just give up :) Muscle cars are impractical, noisy, should look and sound amazing, are all about torque, not power, and should be enough of a pain in the arse to remind you that it's not been designed by focus groups or to be "pleasant" in any way, shape or form. This one has been designed for Europe as much as it has the U.S... I mean... that's just wrong. I don't want an American car designed to go head to head with european cars... we have those already... they're called... European cars :) If I wanted that I'd have bought a M5. I do think the new Mustang kicks the M5's arse into next week though... it's still cool... even though it's nowhere near as cool as it was. BMWs aren't cool at all.

Everyone only really sees the Mustang as a V8 because that was the favourite choice of engine in America. The original Mustang was also available with 6 cylinders and in the cars design and development even had a German Taunus V4 installed.
You can still buy the current Mustang in LHD if you wish, but you'll find yourself paying an extra £10k or at least that's what the importers like Bill Shepherd were charging prior to the RHD availability. The new Mustang wasn't designed to go head to head with Europe, it was designed for the world. Australia is or may have already ceased car production, and the Mustang was needed there to fill a gap and from the order books, seems will be doing very well.
As for torque, the 5.0 V8 produces 400lb, the Ecoboost isn't that far behind at 320lb and is more powerful than the 3.7L V6 @ 300bhp and 280lb/ft. so in this case the V6, which we don't get in Europe is the lowest model. Not sure why they haven't fitted the 3.5 V6 Ecoboost, other than the fact it would have shown up the V8 in terms of both bhp and torque and for the purists, we can't have that can we. ;)
Having witnessed the GT350R being driven at Goodwood, I can tell you, it really does sound awesome.(y)

LOL, my AJPv8 is a flat plane crank and sounds brilliant, so good you deliberately seek out tunnels, high walls, narrows hopping streets, just to be a hooligan.
There's a multistory carpark I'm banned in in town as I set car alarms off :D

The flat plane cranks do have a slight different sound. The issue with some of the new cars is they are designed for modern times so quiet, economic, size of the engine affecting the overall package size, some burble but not the out and out ferocious roar of the older cars. Sound is very important in a car marketed as sporty.

However, for the aftermarket tuning, I'm glad TVR have chosen the Coyote V8 engine, breathed on by Cosworth. There's a huge market in aftermarket perfoamnce add ons, with the engine proven to be capable of 1150bhp, and thats at the wheels!

Add a decent supercharger upgrade and bigger injectors and it's an eaasy and realively cheap 700bhp

But, there is something special about driving old cars, especially iconic ones like the mustang.

That GT350 just doesn't sound like a Mustang should.

One thing I dislike with modern cars, and I include MY Mustang in this too, is the variable cam timing. While it's a great thing in general, it means that most modern muscle cars have lost the lopey idle sound.... that "potato, potato, potato" thing. One thing on my shopping list is a set of cams to get that back.

Here's mine... with the stock exhaust, then with Pypes straight through axle backs....

Here's the same car and exhaust.... but with cams to give that classic exhaust valve overlap sound.

I didn't know they had. A wise choice. It's a superb engine.

If you want exhaust valve overlap, just get the engine remapped, assuming they can access that part of the calibration. VCT's are brilliant, it's like having an almost infinite number of cams at your instant disposal, getting extra torque as if by magic. Don't think I'd want to trade that for a bit of noise.

All that's stopped me at the moment is that exact question: Is noise alone worth it. I love my torque curve at the minute, as it has been remapped already purely for torque, not power. It reaches around 280 ft/lb by 1300 rpm and peaks at 380.. I love it.

I have a sneaky suspicion Ford may consider something the Mustang purists really won't like,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
