Ok - F & C = Film and Conventional.

What is this "Conventional" thing - if it isn't film?

Dictionary thing says "based on or in accordance with what is generally done or believed" today that would be digital. Hmmmmmm.

Pigeons Pigeons CAT Pigeons Pigeons :)

My guess is it's meant to embrace traditional printing techniques, perhaps from digitally created inter-negatives? But it does seem a bit redundant, given how we use it...

There's an echo in ere

Conventional (darkroom) printing using film, as opposed to printing digitally or printing from digitally created negatives?

Or, even bothering to print at all, given that most digital photos seem intended to live out their days (or hours :D) displayed on a web site somewhere.

Why does it have to be only digital?
If we were a digi section of the forum then "based on or in accordance with what is generally done or believed" would relate to digital processes
As we are in a film section of the forum then "based on or in accordance with what is generally done or believed" relates to film processess

In a nutshell, that's it, yep...

though it's also a bit of a catch-all for things like Polaroid / Fuji Instant stuff, which isn't "really" film, Glass Plate processes and Using the Direct Positive Paper prints...

Film is now an unconventional way to make photographs, digital is conventional in the 21st century

I think what you should have said is that Digital is the 'Common' way.

Agreed - so why not just call it Film? :)

I guess I just like the idea of saying "Just off to the F forum for a bit" ")

:)

In what context ?

I've only ever heard the term Digital, post production , film or developing and printing (D&P)

In the context of the name of this forum section.

That's not crystal clear, in what context is Conventional being used in your opinion ? Hence my request for clarification.

I think that's Oy's question, too!

This is spot on! I have struggled with the C bit for some time. Film, wet printing, using chemicals to liberate an image are simply not conventional in a world where the majority of images are captured on silicon.

Just to labour the point a little further:

conventional
kənˈvɛnʃ(ə)n(ə)l/
adjective : based on or in accordance with what is generally done or believed

Making images with film, is sadly not what in now generally done!

If I started a post

Ok - A & D = Analog / Digital

What is this "Analog thing" if it isn't TV ?

Followed by a quote from a dictionary.

But if I then went on to say a lot of people miss the little black and white dot at the end of the night and the national anthem at midnight on an old black and white TV. Or the benefits of digital TV is more channels, sharper pictures etc etc then I'm putting a bit of context around the question,

I's it just a random citing from the dictionary relevant to photography or what ? I was just asking for clarification. Anyway I think it will be more productive to go and tidy my sock drawer ;)

Film-Analogue forum.........sweet FA to do with digital.

Can we please not start the 'analogue' thing again.

Shall we just rename the F&C section to The Best Bit of the Forum By Far?

lol

when the Berlin wall came down and we gots a film section, blimey.....I can remember when there was no film section, imagine how much of an a******e I was then....shooting only film and no section for it...lol, this "conventional" thing was virtually the first moan in said newly created section but I guess we were just glad to have a section so didn't chuck the teddy out the pram.
I actually don't mind it, it could be worse, it could be the Analogue section.....

Fuddled and Confused. That's me.

Make some space, I'm in that tent too!

Film & Traditional??

The Dark Room - albeit some of us never venture into one...

Film and Classic - YES, that is far more fitting for in here, very apt, we just need to keep Brian hidden and get Roberts to work doubly hard on polishing the silver :D

Fumed and confused? For the users of more fruity developers.
