What is better?

Hi,
I just would like to know what people think is the best combo as I can't afford the 300mm 2.8 yet
I have a 70-200 vrI + TC2.0 III + 1.5 crop = 600mm but Would the nikon 300 f4 + TC 1.4 + 1.5 crop = 620mm be better? I will be using the longer end most of the time for wildlife and surfing.

i was joking !! the 300 is silly money that the main issue ... i have the 70-200 great lens

i would say the prime + converter is usually best but as i dont know about nikkor lenses, the zoom maybe a beast.

I know the 300 2.8 is silly money, but I'm talking about the 300mm f4.

Are we talking 300 f4 AF-s or the older one? I have the older on and a kenko tc, and the focusing is pretty slow. Great sharp combo though. Haven't used it in anger yet, just in the garden.
