what is a macro in photographic terms

I moved to this forum from another because I was fed up with the rudeness and insults that were prevalent there.

I thought the users of these forums were more polite and tolerant of each other.

It appears that I was mistaken.

It's not like that here the above wasn't the norm for this forum and anything that does happen is stopped asap by the mods
there's a lot of decent people on here, I have just been helped through upgrading my PC by the guys in the computer section

:agree:

that aside I'm not too bothered whether someone uses the phraseology macro, micro, or close up talking about an image as we all know what they mean, what does matter is the terminology used when talking about equipment particularly when giving advice to beginners

someone who goes into jessops (or wherever) and asks for a close up lens , is likely to wind up with one of those adapters that screws onto the filter threads and comes in various dioptres - nothing wrong with that per se, but its very different to asking for a macro lens.
