Personally, I love tinkering with electronics I buy if they don't quite do what I want them to, or I know with a little modding I can get them to do more and get better value! One thing I like to do is modify games consoles so they can play retro games :)

Here's my list of things I've modified:

  • iPod - Wouldn't have bought my iPod if I couldn't have installed Rockbox on it, I hate iTunes! However I love the FLAC music codec, which Rockbox happily plays :)
  • (Numerous) Xbox 1s - Once I found out that the original xbox could be repurposed to stream media from anywhere on a network with windows SMB shares AND I could run emulators on them to play my favourite retro games, I was hooked. All that for £20! Every TV in our house now has an Xbox running Xbox Media Center under it so we can stream TV shows from our computers to our TVs :)
  • PSP - Again, this was mainly done so I can run emulators on my PSP of my favourite retro games :)
  • Macbook? - I've installed Windows 7 on mine too as well as OSX Snow Leopard...Blasphemy? pffft :P#
  • My old XDA II - I updated from Windows Mobile 2003 to WM6 with the help of the good people of XDA-developers :)
  • My Sega Saturn - My favourite SS game is Panzer Dragoon Saga, however the game is worth about £90! I quiver everytime I take the case out of the delicate cardboard box! Luckily I also have the ISOs stored on my computer, so I took apart one of my Saturns so I can run these copies instead of the original... Which means no chances of scratches on the originals!
  • My Netgear DG834G - DGTeam offer an updated version of the firmware for my router, with extra features including better WiFi encryption if memory serves. Who was I to resist? :D

Hmm, well I think that's everything. Does anyone else on here share this need to fiddle with things? If so, tell me what! ^^
 
I like tinkering with things too, I always feel the need to know how things work and if they can be improved.

Biggest mod I have ever done was in my RC car days. I use to strip down the nitro engines and tweak the ports with a dremel for better fuel and air flow.
One engine I had I custom fabricated a new intake and turned a 4.6cc engine into a twin carb, also made a custom throttle linkage.
Loved the engine!
 
Lots of cars, some motorbikes and a couple of noses :whistling:
 
The engine in my Imp (later installed in the Davrian). Now revs to 9500 and produces maybe 125-130bhp from 1040cc. Still 8 valves, on carbs, naturally aspirated etc. >120bhp/litre is not bad for a 60 year old design originally intended to pump water for fire engines.
 
ive been tinkering and modifying bits of bike, car and radio control car since i was a young boy, mostly with cars.

my mini had very little of what it was intended to leave the factory with - homemade interior, recaro seats, custom box to replace the rear seats, different engine, gearbox, suspension etc.


love playing with stuff but i do very little at the moment!

i hated rockbox when i installed it, found the navigation to be about 3 steps backwards in terms of usability compared with what apple supplied it with, i used it for a bit and then got rid, it had some positives but for me mostly negatives
 
Range Rover Classic bobtailed (cut the back off) it by 22", and turned it in to a pick up other bit's and bob's to keep it road legal. 1974 2 Door Range Rover full body bobtail.
Discovery 1. 3" suspension lift, 2" body lift and 2" spring lift replaced all radius and trailing arms to reposition steering geometry. And only put small tyres on it 33" x 11". It now can lift a wheel just over 38" and all the rest stay in contact. And the good thing it's still road legal. But I feel the need for another project?

My Focus St was modified quite a bit, getting on for 300BHP. Haven't touched the cooper S yet, still too new to start replacing stock parts.

I had just about every bit of carbon fibre you can think of on my old GSXR600. Considerably less modification on my FireBlade, but one particular exhaust I've tinkered with don't half make some noise ! :D

I modified my TV on Friday night.
I now need to buy a new one:bonk:
 
modify just about everything if i can, cars (tastefully, performance not looks)

bought an old rusty lawnmower, pulled every last bolt off it, re worked some rusty metal, space framed the back end, bodged a motorbike engine into it, pulled it out the garage upon completion to go to a lawnmower race we organise, snapped the chain, absolutely devestated, had done about 15 hours straight to get it finished after endless problems, then for that to happen i had a bit of a grump, hammer through shed window and i sat in the shed on the lawnmower the rest of the day!

Have built and run our (mine and my brother's) pug 106 rally car with some success, fairly standard, but still fun to do and you save £££'s by learning how to fix your own car, if the world was ending tomorrow and i needed my car fixing, i still wouldn't take it to a garage
 
Loadsa stuff!, but I guess the most fun was to mod an ancient mobile phone to a mobile phone blocker :D It also upsets some sound systems in pubs and Freeview TV signals .. :eek:

I also built my own PC, done two PCs now, and sorted out the cabling in my dads PC.
 
I like my desktop PC case to have their hard drives in removeable caddies. I also like a particular make of Jeantech PC case where the motherboard is attached to an opening side door, making everything wonderfully easy to access. Trouble is, the case only has four front bays and I want something like eight (my old case had ten). So I got two of these Jeantech cases and cut one in half, taking the four drive bays and accessory panel bay, and attached it to the top of the other. The side opening doors were shortened to fit, and the front join carefully cut to blend well. It now has six HDs and two dvd drives, a panel with slots for any memory card + USB, esata and Firewire. It should last me until we advance to plugging in to a port on the sides of or skulls.
 
In my time I've modified several R/C model cars, two Nissan Micras, a few motorcycles/mopeds and done a couple of bits to my MK4 Golf.
 
anything I can and feel comfortable doing. RC cars, PC's etc but most commonly Bikes (bicycles) be it road, mountain or hybrid. I seem to always be tinkering and waiting for delivery of parts, much to the delight of my other half :D
 
my daftest one was to build a pc into the top drawer of my desk - cos i needed the room under it! was quite cool with the dvdrom in the front, usb ports etc all the cables came out of the back, well hidden.
 
I drive a modified Skoda :)

I've also modified furniture before - mainly to give it a 'distressed' and 'blue' appearance.

I also modify clothes quite often because the jeans I buy are usually too long.
 
A Lambretta 200 SX was probably the most heavily modified thing I ever did.

Yamaha piston, skimmed head, lightened flywheel, Dell'Orto carb and hand made exhaust.

Gave a few motor bikes a surprise.
 
Another who modifies scooters, currently a Lambretta GP.
