What have you learnt since taking up photography?

I've learned to look at things in a completely different way, and to be much more objective about the pictures I take. I have also become more objective about other people's photos.
 
too many people rely on Photoshop to fix stuff they were too lazy to fix when shooting

everyone thinks they're amazing with Photoshop and don't understand that it takes time to learn good technique and not everything is a 5 minute job..
 
More seriously - and having being 'into' photography for 35 years or so - that the 'best' pictures are the ones that mean something to you and not the ones that are just technically crafted.
 
i,ve learned that my wife says my pics are starting to "look really good now" :lol: :suspect:
 
The 3 most important things I have learnt...

1) It's all about the light, and the good golden stuff I mean here.
2) It's not about the kit but about the person behind it.
3) There is always something else I want!
 
Only really started photography less than a year ago, but these two stand out.

My camera has other modes than "AUTO"

DOF is controlled by apature

Camera equiment is chuffing expensive !!!
 
take as many photos of as many things as possible, and try no to rely on photoshop.
 
Apart from a couple of bridge cameras I have learnt the following since buying my first DSLR a fuji S3:

1. Don't take loads of pictures and hope one will work!
2. Study what you want to take a picture of and imagine it printed when you look in the viewfinder.
3. The best camera does not make you the best photographer, but it helps to make a quality printed image if you get it right.
4. Go out with other photographers and be amazed at what they see that you missed.
5. Take criticism but realise it is only another point of view.
6. When you enter into a competition if it doesn't get anywhere, put it in again, after all it was only one judges opinion.
7. There is lots of us, so you have friends in every town if you need them.
8. Don't force yourself to take pictures or print them if you don't have the time.

This morning I took my dog for a walk as I do every morning before breakfast and had my D700 and Nikon 70 - 200 2.8. I took two pictures! The first time I did that walk I took over 100. Those pictures are still on my hard drive doing nothing other than being a record of that walk. The two I took this morning could be good enough to print!

Too much to list! Having started at the tender age of 14, a LOT of water's gone under the bridge, and plenty of that water was pretty murky!

Main things are that cig'rettes'n'whiskey'n'wild, wild women are a distraction at any age.
You always have too many expenses for your level of income.
You always have too much junk for the space you have available to keep it.
Life's too short.
Life's better than the alternative, although the last bit of life can be pretty unpleasant.
Summers were always longer and hotter while winters were colder with more snow.
No matter who you vote for, government always wins.
If it can go wrong, it will and when it does, it'll be at the most inconvenient time possible!

Agreed.

What I've learnt since joining this forum is someone always says what I'm thinking about a page of so before I find the thread!.

Also agree with Alby about having the wrong lens on, makes me wonder if I even own the right lens.

I'm learning to see things more visually, in blocks of shapes, colour and texture.
