Hello mods of TP, why did my thread get closed?

Ok so i know it said no religion, but if you are going to talk about science and space then ultimately you will have to talk about religion as its part of the equation, you have to include it. That's why the title was what it was, because i was not actually singling out religion, the topic just got that way, including space stuff.

Personally i think this is unfair, we all have freedom of speech and it never got to a point where it was being nasty. I feel now that if you close a thread to do with religion then you'll have to close a thread to do with everything else you state, inlcuding those pictures about the recent riots in London, as they are to do with politics.

Please can i have a viable answer, other than, "its the rules"
 
It was going the way of an argument, like they usually do, I closed it :)
 
Sorry but I didn't see an argument, there was a lively discussion with folks of different views but nobody was being aggressive or nasty in putting their views across ... maybe a bit flippant but that's only to be expected.
If it's just that people don't want God being defended, I'll butt out and leave it to the aliens, seems a bit biased though!

You're right, it hadn't hit argument status, but it had taken the turn that they always take before an argument breaks out. We were keeping a close eye out just because we've seen it so often :)

As far as closing down image threads about rallies etc that's not going to happen, the discussion should be about the photography.
 
So can we continue the discussion if we do it with a couple of pics of a church, the sky and a microscope at the start of the thread?
 
If you're going to discuss the quality of the photography of the church, microscope and sky - no problem :D

Ok so when we start talking about space, time and creation of the universe, will that thread get closed aswell before its starts on religion? Sorry but i don't see where you guys are coming from, just because you believe there was going to be ann argument, doesn't mean there was ever going to be one, and if someone had tried starting an argument, surely as mods you should have just deleted that post and kept everything on an even kiel.

Yes maybe i should have used the contact us part, but there are contributers to that thread that will want to have thier say too, which is why i created another thread.

Personally i think it is unfair, i have owned a Vbulletin website and i would have moderated it in such a way that would have allowed it to continue, not just close it for no reason.

Did you moderate a forum with 35,000 members and manage to read every single post every minute of every day to make sure nothing out of line was said? If you did then I you are doing a far better job than the TP will ever do. They monitor what they can and take the appropriate action. Like it or depart!!

No i had moderators to do that job, and when presented with a problem that they thought they couldn't make a judgment on they came to me and the other owner of the site. We would then think about it and make a judgment.

Soemthing like this would have been left to run, until it got out of hand, but it would not have closed, it would have been "moderated".

Its not pride at all, Its a conversation and its just had your parents hand slapped in your face and told to shut up.

Exactly what has happened here then. The moderators looked at it, made a judgement call and took action. It was just a different course of action than you would have taken had it been your site so your toys have left the cot.

Go and have a cup of tea then come back and have a photography discussion on this photography forum.

Is that sarcasm? your funny i like you.

Toys are still in the cot and firmly staying there, it would take a hell of a lot more than this to p1ss me off. Its the principle of a decent and intelligent discussion that got closed for no reason.

Ultimately yes, of course, i'm just voicing my opinion, which i am perectly entitled to do. I dare say this thread will get closed too in an attempt to shut me up once again.

What also funny is that i created another thread about HDR's which DID turn into an argument and that was left to run.

Anyway, i'm off for some dinner and watch a movie.

principals? They are a bit like opinions, everyone has one and they frequently differ. The decision was made in the staff room by several mods/admin that the conversation had got to the point where we could only see it going one way, so it was closed. Seemples. :)

Damn, I missed this :( I always miss the good threads.

Anyway, basically as has been said. It had taken the elevated discussion route...which they always take.
Our experience tells us that it WILL turn nasty, so it was decided to close it before that happened. Before the atmosphere turns sour. Before any problems are caused.
It wasn't closed for any other reason. We have been down this road many many times before. We know exactly what's going to happen.
We agreed to let it run as it was a polite discussion, and eventually it started taking a turn, so we pre-empted any problems and closed it.

The only other alternative is to leave it open, wait for the inevitable and start dishing out suspensions...which nobody wants to do.
