Yes
hi as i said in my first thread. i have been working with a Olympus FE-140 compact camera.

I am looking to get my first DSLR, and i have about £700 for all the equipment i need, as for what i do; well i do a lot of different photography, i like doing landscape stuff, and i also like doing music photography, so i'm really looking for an all round entry level camera.

what gear have you found good around that price?

cheers

canon 400D? with a bit left over for a halfways decent lens

You should get a Canon 400D with kit lens for less than £400
and that should leave you just about enough for a 70-300 is usm lens
and don't forget that canon are offering "cash" back deals as well

Hmm a tough one. I own a D70s and was in the same position as you are in now a about 6 months ago.

Now looking at what i got for my money i think the 400D is a better option giving you, as Mad pup says enough money for another lens or 2. This will give you enough range and equipment to photography any given situation.

For that, buy used. Canon 10D or Nikon D70 and some decent glass.

I agree. Both excellent cameras. The 10D is a blast, and extremely easy to handle.

Don't buy anything until you have been somewhere to try them out - You will find that you like the feel / look / layout etc of one camera over another - I found the Canon (in my budget) too small in my hands & went for a Nikon D50 - The big two [Canon & Nikon] are really close on quality of pictures but Canon do have more lenses to choose from when the inevitable "upgraditis" kicks in ...
There are Canon cashback offers but Nikon are doing cashback on their entry level D40 D40X cameras too ...
HTH - Paul ;)

im going into my local camera shop tomorrow to have a look and a feel of the cameras in my price range.

The rebel is american import and if import tax has nat bean paid canon will not honer its warranty i think more advice needed:shrug:

Shame you just missed out on the 30D + kit lens for £599 - that really was a cracking deal. It's at £750 now, I wish I could've afforded one.
On the plus side, I've just found you can get it for sub-£600 from Warehouse Express with Canon's cashback offer, although that excludes the kit lens. Even with it, it's still less than £700 so could well be worth a look.

A friend of mine is selling the following on ebay,

350d body and battery grip
canon 35-135 f4 lens (with filter and hood)
sigma 135-400mm apo lens (with carry bag, uv filter and hood)
4 Batteries
2 chargers (one doubles up as mains and car charger)
4 512mb cf cards
1 256mb cf card
carry bag
all leads, instructions, and software in 350d box

He hasnt put a buy it now price on it but he told me he would accept £480-500 for the whole kit.
If i remember rightly, the camera is only about 4 months old.
Mods-feel free to remover this if its in the wrong thread,

Dean:)

oo.. have you got a link or ought?
Marcus, on ebay goto advance search, and search by seller, b40star is his name. Send him a message saying that you notice he has the camera and lens on 2 auctions, would he be willing to do a buy it now for both of them for your offer. Better be quick though as he has is advertised somewhere else as there is quite a bit of interest.
Dean:)
