Yes
Just trying to work out what gear to take with me to the NEC bikeshow next weekend...

My main issue is that im going as pillion passenger with my Dad on either his Triumph Daytona 955i or St1100 Pan-European... if its the Pan-European ive got loads of pannier space... if its the Daytona I will only be able to take my Mini-trekker AW... and i dont want it fully loaded or I may end up with sore shoulders after a 120mile ride...

So what kit is essential and what just plain isnt required....
Please help me...

I can only assume ill need the 5D+grip the 5D is better at lowlight (high ISO) and also i dont need the 1dmkIIs framerate for static work.

The 580ex flash is probably also a must due to the low light.

Will i get away with the 24-70f2.8 or is the 50mmf1.8 going to be better? Will I need/want a Circular Polariser to try and control the unwanted reflections caused by the artifical lighting... not that ive got a CPL for the 50mm and the one for the 24-70 is nigh-on-useless due to the dize of the lens hood.

I havent even considered the 300mm, the 70-200 im not sure about, i dont know if there is an shows or displays where i would need the length...
I doubt the monopod or tripod will be any use, except for clubing my way thru the crowds...

Ive got 6x 4gb CF cards so i wont be taking the PD70x but 5D raw files are bigger than my old 1dmkII... i still think 24gb is going to be plenty. (unless I find the models changing rooms)

My Dad will be taking my old 300D with 18-55kit lens... so thats got to go in my bag as well...

You might want to take a zoom (to 200mm ) for the shows, they usually have a stunt/motocross show. Then of course there's all the babes (ahem, I mean promotions ladies ;) )

Having been to the show before, most of the "Promotions" Ladies are gone for the main events. They appear for the Press day and 1 or 2 days later but rarely are they there after that. Or there are very few of them.

You wont want to use anything too long as people will simply walk in front of you all the time.

I used to cover the NEC every year for about 5 year’s..all for small very Bike mag ;) .... wide is the order of the day, and a max of 200 for the close indoor stunt bit....You'll get the super talented Dougie Lampkin if you lucky.

Best tip...get their very early, before the hoard’s of bikers turn up.....It’s the only way you'll get clear shots of everything...well some things , its a big place aftertall. :D

wahay...1000 posts. :)

:agree: Widest lens you have, I stuggled with 24mm the last time I went the NEC.

Your Fastest wide lens and fast film .... brrrp!! :bang: reset sorry had an "old moment" there.

Flashgun is an absolute must. Also a pocket full of AA batteries.

Finally comfy shoes(mbike boots in your case)and a water bottle it's BIG generally very stuffy.

The full frame 5D will help when it's comes to wide stuff :)

i really wanted to avoid 2 bodies due to the added weight to carry on the bike... i could make me dad carry his own camera in his tank bag... thats a good idea. Although, having 2 big cameras and lenses may enable me to "Look" like a real Photographer and people tend to stand clear...
