What free virus checker?

Have another look, I thought the same but was wrong, my son has just upgraded my computer to the latest version.

HHmm, that'll teach me to believe the hype. Anyway, AVG 8 has some awful user reviews so far, ok mainly from Vista users, I'm still on XP. Anyone got any other Virus Checkers that they can recommend?

I Use AVAST!
it updates itself regularly and touch wood no problems since I have been using it
( over 3 years now since I swapped from dumped Norton)

edit I used XP pro

I use AVG 8 and had no problems with Vista.

I am still using avg 7.5, as version 8 made my XP machine run VERY slowly. If 8 does not improve I'll do without. I think my virus checkers have caught only one virus in the last 5 years.

I have had to change to AVG recently, having been a confirmed Avast user, as XP64, avast and my wi-fi adapter did not like each other. Got several machines running both [not on the same machines, obviously] and I think they are much of a muchness certainly on XP, can't comment on them on Vista as not got any Vista machines atm

Sods law will come along as soon as you decide not to use virus protection:nono:

I use COMODO on W2KP and XP machines, and the anti-malware on Vista. I'll be going to COMODO full time on Vista when NAV runs out

comodo link

Hope this helps.

I didn't like AVG8 - having used AVG for years. I noticed when I logged in to Barclays online banking that they give you Kaspersky internet security full software for free...so I use that now. Kaspersky is one of the best and the price was good too :)

Always had AVG in one form or another, its never given me a moments trouble.
I upgraded to 8 at the same time as I re-formatted and it seems to work great.
I notice a resident shield that catches stuff on its way in, that wasn't in the previous AVG:thumbs:
The only thing that got on my nerves was the link checker during a google search, it puts a marker beside your search results and opens applets as you pass them telling you if the link is "safe" or not:gag:...pretty invasive, so I turned it off:thumbs:
Apart from that, its banging..

AVG is excellent.

Saying that, I have NO mail clients installed (use web based MS exchange), and last night the AVG pop scanner started scanning an OUTGOING EMAIL :suspect:

Confused, but havent a clue what to check or where to look.

Screw it ;)

Gary.

If you are a barclays online customer you can get 1 year of Kersperski for free at the moment.

Personally I use NOD32, have been for about 4 years and it has never let me down. (I actually pay for the licence as well !)

Ok guys, I spent much of Sunday afternoon and evening trying different virus software programs. I tried Avast, Avira something from Rising AV and all gave me issues that AVG never did. Avira would not connect to the internet no matter what I did to force an update, Avast wouldn't play ball either and the other one kept finding a virus but no matter what I did, it wouldn't stop popping up that this virus was there. So I'm off to try AVG 8 after all.....
