hi to all,i had the pleasure of recording a nativity play for the local school,i was using a panasonic digital camcorder and i now have to put them on to a cd for the parents, i am using a mac lap top to upload, so my question is what format do i use? or is there a specific set of moves i must make, im also hoping to use a usb to load the files onto, is there a procedure i have to use, Thanks for reading.

Burning it to a DVD movie would be the best as it would allow the parents to play back in any standard DVD player.

Does your Mac have a DVD drive? Mac's stopped having these around 2012 ( not sure of the exact date.) If not you'll need to get an inexpensive DVD recorder. Then it all depends on what software you have to process the video that you shot. As it's a Mac you have iMovie which is OK. Unfortunately iMovie doesn't support publishing to a DVD, in DVD format. This means it wont work with a DVD program that work with video DVD's . However you could just burn the video file to a conventional DVD and let the parents open it normally. You do have other alternatives. You could publish the video to You Tube. or Facebook. Naturally you would need to take care that only the parents could see it. You could save the files to USB drives but that would be more expensive than DVD's. or could ask the school if they have a the ability to produce either video DVD's or standard data DVD's and let them supply the parents

As far as format id concerned a standard .mov or MP4 file would be the best I'd suggets

Thanks chappers so mp4 is what im aiming to record ,the video was made in Avchd format which i belive is not an average format.

AVCHD is a video recoding format, and is fairly standard. It effectively compresses the the video output, Most editing programs will edit AVCHD. but often is not suitable for "distribution" You then need to output into a format that standard computer video players can handle. MP4 is one of these

I have a cd with imovie and idvd if i upload it would any of them convert to everyday dvds

well that sorts that out i have been though a lot f tutorials and iam getting there
thankyou for your replys
