Hi all, just wondering what flash would be a good buy for my 60d.

I'm looking at a canon 580 EX and an EXII version. Out of the two what would you prefer and why? I've had a bash at the mark I and really like it, but I know the mark II would probably be better, or maybe not, your opinions will really help me decide. Maybe there is another alternative.

I would just get the 480 ex II imo the 60d has a built in transmitter so you dont need the transmitter the 580 ex has :)

Yongnuo 565EX. A clone of the Canon 580 for a quarter of the price and it's excellent.

Cheers, I will check these two lens out. I don't really want to spend unnecessary money if there's a cheaper option. I can get a 580 ex2 for 200 which to be fair might not be a bad deal.

I've got a 580EX II which goes on my 5D3 and it's excellent. Not used it much off camera yet but will be doing so soon. I've also got a Nissin Di866 MkII that I use for my 60D and that is excellent also. I had the Di866 MkI but gave it to the wife when I got the MkII. I've used that off camera with both bodies and it seems as good as the 580. New price for the Nissin is around £180-200 and compared with the prices of a new 580 or 600 it's a steal. If you can get a 580EX II for the same price though, that would be the one I'd go for.

It's nothing like a Canon 580. No mastering, no HSS, nor a whole raft of other features.

Bargain

It's been used well at weddings but should (fingers crossed) have plenty of life in it yet! Going to see it in action first!

Yes, it will surely have plenty of life in it, but that's a fairly average price for a used one.
