hi guys im a novice and i have been out and bought myself a cannon sx10is i know that a dsl camera would have been better buti wanted a new camera and my funds did not go that far . I have just ordered a 58 mm filter adapter from lensmate but i would like some advise on what filters people would recommend .
thanks in advance brett

What kind of photography are you planning Brett?

The best and only filter I would get at the moment is a C P or circular polariser, it will darken and saturate colours for you and get rid of most reflections from glass and water.

When you have had the camera a few months you might then feel the need for more filters.
But if you buy them now, you will probably waste you're cash.

i will be using my camera to take motorsport shotsand padock shots my boss and daughter both compete in rallycross and they take me along mechanic for them . Also to take pictures of are cats and animals/ wildlife , must not forget my nephews . Also could u point me in the direction of the best place to buy said filters from

As Rick said - a CP is probably the most useful to begin with although the kind of photography you are talking about might not benefit because you will be needing to use fast shutter speed but you'll need to slow it down to compensate for the CP that reduces the light.

If you're taking pictures of stationery cars then it will certainly be useful to stop the glare from windscreens but with moving cars you simply wouldn't have time to set the CP for the best shot.

Loads of places to by them anyway - Warehouse express has a hugh range. Otherwise just Google it.
