Hi again, my AE1 will arrive soon and i want to get some film for it and haven't got a clue what or where to buy it.

Reccomendations please your expertfullnesses:)

Poundland is a great place to start :) different branches seem to have different brands - so it's a bit of pot luck - but for first time - at a £1 a roll, it's a good starting point to get to know your camera.

Yep, buy a few rolls to get yourself up and running and even if you mess up (which you won't) at a quid a roll its no great loss. Fire off a quick roll of snaps and if your local Asda/Tesco still develop drop them off there to test everything works ok. Then load up another and take some good ones to post up in here.
Have a look at the stickies at the top, there are a couple of threads in there which may be of some help.

Andy

So, how much are they at pound land then:thinking:

I bet they aint cheap.

You may joke but if your a very good boy you might a 36 exposure roll rather than the now standard 24 :D

You can get a better deal if you buy in bulk, apparently a qud each or ten for a tenner, bargain.

Just seen our local has them for 2 quid, but buy one get one free means that they only cost you 2 quid for two, mind you, a quid each sounds good as well:clap:

Bargain, fill yer boots lad.

I don't think it's completely a financial decision it could be down to availability as my local Poundland has got 36 exp back in stock.

Well if the owner of Poundland is reading this thread...can we have some Portra about 18 exp please .........................

I bought the last 5 rolls of 24exp that Queen's St Cardiff had yesterday. I hope they get more in stock, but I do have 15 rolls saved up now.

Although Poundland film is great for testing cameras and budget film photography shots please don't believe that it's the best that modern film photography has to offer.
There are some really quite outstanding modern emulsions and a look through the examples from some of the TP members that frequent these pages will testify to that and of course the numerous groups on Flickr.

So by all means get some Poundland film, give it a try and then when you're ready, dive in to the world of Portra, Ektar, Velvia and then some of the wonderful b&w films like Fuji Acros, Ilford Pan F and Adox Silvermax.

Agree, it's great for testing cameras or for snap shots, but doesn't stand up against the best for grain, colour, contrast, resolution or 'pushability'.

There are also legendary tales of heros getting an entire cellophane pack for a pound due to cashiers beguiled by their charm.

I came this close to achieving that dream but as she was putting the slab of film in a bag, the cashier suddenly stopped and said, "oh wait, there's 10 of them in this pack, isn't there" and changed the entry on the till :(

Unlucky man, from hero to zero in a second.

Worked for me - once - but every time I've tried since they've caught on. Still hard to argue for a quid a roll, obviously.

Yeah, I'm really going to take my time and get my head around all the different film, I also want to get a few more cameras, ie the A1 and the F1.

I must stop reading these threads. That statement prompted me into spending an hour on ebay looking at Canon FD gear ... ended up making enquiries on a second T90 body and putting several things in the watch list, including a T80 with the autofocus 50mm lens. If Andy thinks the T90 is fugly, I can't wait to see what he makes of that... :$

Edit to add: Ahhh! This guy's selling the complete set with flash! Is it a bit expensive for a novelty camera or a worthwhile investment in a soon-to-be-appreciated classic, the forerunner of the EOS system? ;)

It is a very fugly camera, the cannon equivalent to the OM30. At least oly had the decency to make the OM classicly styled.

T80  as a Canon fan I wouldn't even want one for free.

It gets worse. Now I really want to find an FD 35-70mm f/4 AF lens, which will auto-focus on any of the FD bodies because all the mechanics are built into the lens. There's an interesting piece on photo.net with some pictures of the lens in question when you scroll down. Plus it's white with a red ring so I can use it to taunt EOS users

Well that's an idea and never knew you could do this, but the Canon FD 35-70 f4 non AF (not the cheapo kit lens) is reckoned to be a good lens.
