Yes
I'm considering getting something to load files to when out and about with my D80.
I'd like something with good screen definitition and size for viewing and showing shots to friends etc.

I've never used anything like this before and would welcome any recommendations or suggestions and what features to look for/ignore etc.

I have had an Epson P200 for nearly two years now and swear by it for capacity, screen definition and reliability ...

Of course there are larger capacity Epsons now and I believe they have made the screen larger/better ... :D ... if price is not a consideration you couldn't do much better imgo ... ;)

:p

Hi - I considered something like this but bought a Jobo GigaOne 30gb which just stores the files (how much can you see on a 2" or 3" screen that you pay an arm & a leg for?) - When you want to view the files you just plug it in to any usb device (laptop PC or whatever) and view them there ... Paul ;)
BTW - Mine's for sale in the Trading Forum :embarrassed:

I had the flashtrax XT which is a great wee unit, good capacity, great battery life, easy to use. The only drawback was the screen definition wasnt brilliant.

Got a P2000 now which has a great screen but seems to be a bit hard on batteries.

Recommend a MP4 Archos, not restricted to just storing & showing photos.
Listen to music.
Watch Movies.
Record from TV.
External PC Storage device

Thanks guys.
It was while browsing in Currys (with the missus - honest) that I saw an Archos that sparked my interest.

How long do you intend to be away from a PC with this device? If it's only for a day or so I'd seriously consider just buying more memory cards - you can get almost as much space in Compact Flash as you can in some of the full colour HDD based devices for the money.

It's not the space really.
I was checking out an Archos thingy in Currys and when wifey saw it she thought it would be great for showing stuff to her workmates and when we visited friends rather than having to link the camera to a PC or TV and bore everyone else there to death.
I then thought It would give me additional storage when out, if needed, and make it easier to review/delete shots than relying on the small LCD on the camera.

Some/most of these devices do not store RAW format, if you don't shoot RAW then ignore this.

I've got an epson p5000. Its an excellent piece of kit. Nice clear screen. Plays video, stores and displays raw files. Transfers from compact flash directly and can also read from and write to a usb pen drive. When I'm on holiday, it means I don't need a pc with me to back up and review photos. Oh, and it plays mp3s too.

i went super cheap

bought a belkin usb anywhere (£15 from pc world)
amd a ahrd drive caddy (10 ish from local pc shop)

and stuck in an old hard drive (12 gig) after giving it a good test to make sure it was still a viable / reliable drive

hasnt let me down yet. ok no screen, but have one of those on the camera any way :P

Firstly went for the Jo Bo Giga One but found that it corrupted some of my images.

Then had an Archos biggest problem with this was no RAW support and it only read CF cards, unless you carried an adapter.

Now have the Epson P-5000 which i would highly recommend, it has yet to let me down even in tough safari conditions.
As stated in a previous message it views RAW allows you to zoom. And it transfers directly from SD/CF cards.

Sounds like that may be the answer.
I've got CF and SD cameras. I only shoot Raw occasionally but it's good to have that option.
Time to get the surfboard out again :)

That is a good point, it's the only thing I use my Flashtrax for these days.
