I have just invested in having a new computer built.
And for now at least I am remaining with windows 7 pro.
However Microsoft have discontinued support for Windows Live Mail as a Email program, and their replacement is not supported on Windows 7.
I am interest to see what fellow sufferers of Microsoft vagaries are now using for Emails?
I just want something for emails, and do not care what else the program might or might not do.
I have a preference to continue with Pop3. but am open to other suggestions.

Any suggestions welcome?

W7 & Thunderbird here also.
Supports pop3 & IMAP, ( I have both types running on T-bird) unlimited emails
I switched from outlook a couple of years ago, when it started becoming resource hungry and unstable.
Never looked back (y)

Hardly surprising as 7 lost mainstream support two years ago. You can't blame Ms for not making new software work on it.

Any reason for using pop3? Imap would be better in most cases especially if multiple clients access the same mailboxes.

As for client I've always been fond of full blown outlook, the o365 subs aren't badly priced and you get all of the other outlook 2016 progs.

I am using eM Client and have an outlook account and a gmail account set up on it. The gmail account synchronises fairly rapidly whereas the outlook account is a tad slower but still works.
There is a free version which allows you to set up two email accounts and is the one I use. If you need more than two accounts then you have to purchase the pro version for £29.95.
This software works with Vista, 7, 8, and 10.

Thunderbird. I suppose you have a good reason to use POP but I can't think of one.

How about Outlook or GMail?

Dave

Thunderbird is good if you don't have the full Office suite - I've been using it since the early 2000s for home emails.

Using Gmail on Chrome . Still have the Microsoft Mail app. Occasional use of yahoo but not so poular..

I use Mail Live on W10 without any problems at all.

It works so why need support. The userbase is so small now no one is going to hack it.

not necessarily about new hacks, there could be existing security flaws which could later be exploited (live mail most likely would not be covered under the extended security support of 7 until 2020).

look at the wannacry outbreak, it used a known (by americas security services) exploit that layed un-patched for a long time and was as a result of people running out of date and unsupported software.

I use Thunderbird on the Win 10 machine that my wife uses. She complains about freezes when deleting to copious voucher-related emails she gets, but I've never seen this happen!

Calling it a freeze may be slightly exaggerating, but there can be a delay while the computer is busy deleting a large amount of data with Thunderbird.

Some great suggestions above already. You might want to look into the Microsoft Office Home Use Programme. If you work somewhere providing it you'd get Office for £10.

On my Android phone I use K9 mail.
