Yes
I just thought i'd start a thread seeing if anyone had any peeves with their camera or kit?

Mine personally, i wish Canon had introduced a more introducing screen system thing. On most modes, it's all the same. That, and the fact that all the pro tools (mirror lock up etc) are hidden away in menus!

What grinds your gears then?

I was quite happy with my 1dmiIVs until I read about the 1dX and now I dont like my cameras because...they are not a 1dx :(

Hardly anything - I have the Pentax K5 which for landscapes is pretty much perfect: great DR, weather proofing, excellent functionality - only thing I can think of is that an articulating screen would be useful

D7000

Bigger buffer
ISO button in a better place, would much prefer the pro camera button layout
round eye piece on viewfinder
lockable dials, keep moving mine while in vertical
would also be alot better with a 24-70 2.8 attached to it :)

I love my camera it takes pics when I push a button, and if i am really really lucky they come out ok too.

seriously my camera is all I need at this time, I cannot think of anything else it needs for the type of photography I do.

The 50D is solid, I cant fault it really. It has everything I want/need, and anything it doesnt have comes in the 7D and thats hopefully what I'll be buying in the new year

I know its not possible, but it would be nice for all cameras to come with a dual card slot. I really like the "saftey first" approach, and also the fact that i had 2 high capacity cards in my old 1dmkII, on holiday i never changed them  just shot on one card, and then switched to the other when full :D

Also, It would be good if the dual card slots were able to write jpegs to one card and raw to another when shooting both at the same time

Canon 1D Mark 2

I'd like to be able to shoot jpg to one card and raw to the other as per newer 1D models
I'd like a bigger rear screen
I'd like to have the newer button format
I'd like to be able to push the ISO higher
I'd like slightly higher resolution as larger sensor sometimes requires cropping

Canon 40D

I'd like to be able to push the ISO higher
I'd like better AF esp AI Servo tracking

I guess that points to why I'm after a 1D Mark 3 or perhaps a 7D

5Dmk2:

  • lack of auto ISO in manual mode.
  • Inability to customise the tradeoffs (e.g. I'd like to be able to say "keep shutter at 1.5x focal length until you reach max ISO")
  • Ability to set max ISO
  • Lack of talent button.

EOS450D

Poor high ISO quailty and be able to push it higher.
Live view could be easier to access
Bigger buffer when using RAW, 6 frames isnt enough.

I guess I'm outgrowing it and would like a 7D or 60D let's see what santa brings, but I'm not expecting too much!

Carry on dreaming.

D7000
as already stated, lockable dials. Mine often get moved if I take it out the bag in a hurry.

GF1
Non-slip coating, it's a lovely camera but I'm terrified it will slip out of my hands on of these days.

Not a huge amount annoys me about my D300. The only thing I'd change would be to swap the mode and ISO buttons, so you could change ISO quickly and without using both hands. Other than that, there's nothing else that springs to mind. Having said that, next time I use it'll ill prob notice more and be back to add to this thread again!

It seems there is quite alot of design/aesthetic changes that people would make over things that generally get on your nerves.

On my 500D, the auto-off is a total pain in the backside. Never liked the feature and I would rather the camera ran out of juice than for me to have to wait for it to boot up again. I'm glad the camera starts up in like.. a second but still.. how long does a moment last.

I don't like the fact that when Nikon made the D2x, they forgot to put the D3 sensor in it :D

Not much to complain about with the 5Dii, most of the problems I have now are just down to lack of ability :/

Justwish I could create a hybrid from the IQ, ISO, layout and quality of my 5dMkII with the autofocus and FPS of my 7D. Now that would suit me to the ground.

Well I have a 7d and I'd like it to be full frame and to have a swivel screen.

Forget that, I'd prefer it if it was a 5DMK3.

Only thing I've found so far on my D90 is that the AE-L button is awkward to reach when the camera is up to my eye. Makes back-button focussing very uncomfortable so I don't bother.

I do sometimes wish I could push the iso higher too, but that's probably due to the slow-as-owt 18-55mm I'm using! Nifty fifty is top of my shopping list!

D7000

ISO button in a better place, would much prefer the pro camera button layout

I use the easy ISO setting on my D7000 so all I need to do is rotate the rear wheel. No need to press the ISO button first. But I shoot almost exclusively in AV, so I figure it won't work the same in manual.

The only thing I really dislike - 30D, but applies to all crop cameras - is the miserable little viewfinder. I sigh with relief whenever I use my F2 or FM, which have real viewfinders, but FF digital is out of the question for me. I couldn't get close to affording one, and don't really want the extra bulk and weight either.

I know the reasons why crop cameras have small/dim viewfinders, compared with the ones we took for granted on budget priced SLRs in the 70s and 80s, but is it really impossible to something about this, or is it just not worthwhile for the manufacturers because so many people have never used a camera with a big/bright viewfinder nowadays?

What grinds your gears then?

Canon 20D - too big, bulky and heavy and the shutter / mirror sounds like someone throwing an anvil into a tin bath and the optical path gets muck in it.

Canon 5D - Too big, bulky and heavy and it hasn't got a built in flash and the optical path gets muck in it.

GF1, - Pretty good really but it lacks a VF and the Panny lenses lack markings and are generally horrible to use for anything but AF.

G1, Pretty good really although it could be a smidgen smaller and Panny lenses frustrate me.

I have mine set the same but i spend most of my time in Manual so it doesn't work

D700- can't say I want to change anything.

You can turn the auto off off you know!

D40X.

Not very good high ISO performance.
No focus motor.
Not enough focus points.
But you've got to love the we little thing:love:

Or set it to 15 or so minutes? I generally have mine set to 30 seconds as it comes out of it almost instantaneously to be honest. However, if Im out doing something with the tripod at night and am going to be using the remote trigger I'll set it to 15 minutes just so I have a large window where I don't have to keep waking it up remotely.

Nikon D50:
Only 5MP
3ish FPS for a massive 4 RAWs then a long wait.
No cable remote socket
No vertical grip
SD only so 2GB max card size.
800ISO tops (1600 is a bit too soft really)

On the plus side it has an AF motor and more AF points that the wifes D40x. Due an upgrade but can't see it happening any time soon.

5D Mark II:
The shutter button doesn't click! Most annoying thing I've ever found on a camera...I'm sure other 5Dmk2 owners will agree :(
The screen isn't as good as the 550D's
Continuous shooting should be much faster
The size and weight! Try using a gripped 5Dmk2, 24-70mm, and 580EX II for a nights work and you'll understand...

40D:
The screen isn't as good as the 550D's
It's indestructible! Been wanting it to break for ages so we can replace it, but it just won't die (over 1 million shots taken)

550D:
Lack of thumb wheel
No top display
It feels like a toy! With a grip it's slightly better though
No manual white balance

That, and the fact that all the pro tools (mirror lock up etc) are hidden away in menus!

Put all the things you use regularly on the "My Menu " tab and leave the menu display on that tab, as soon as you pres the Menu button they will be there for you to use.

I think I have Format, Mirror lock up, Live view enable, Battery etc

HTH

Is that not just a 1DS X (whatever the new one is called). Bit pricey though :)

7D?

5D Mark II:

Not so much of a dislike as more of a grumble. Wish they would incorporate the fixed maximum on auto ISO. This was such a nice feature on my 550D. Ideal for low light situations. I am sure that Canon see it as a value adding feature that will encourage me to upgrade at some point but it seems such a minor thing they could easily add in firmware. Not like I am asking them to add another 20 autofocus points.

other than I don't have one, nothing lol

The worst thing about my cameras (D5000, GF2, TZ7) is the idiot who presses the buttons...
