What does Aperture do that PSE 6 doesn't?

Yes
I've just been having a chat with one of my work colleagues about post processing and I was saying that I'd just bought PSE 6, her response was "Why did you buy that? You're on a Mac, you should have got Aperture" I asked her why and she said Aperture was much easier to fathom, quicker and more organised.

So any of you got any views?

They're not really the same type of program. Download the demos and have a look.

Up until recently I'd used the Canon software and photoshop to manage and process my pics, and I've just switched to Aperture.

What a revelation! Quite a lot to learn (still) but even on my first set of wedding pics using Aperture, my processing is faster. So many nifty (read: timesaving) features it's untrue. Very clever bit of software and I can't rate it highly enough.

I was going to get the trials of Aperture and Lightroom, got Aperture and then just started using it as it seemed to do exactly what I wanted, so I can't compare it to LR.

Get the trial and watch a load of the tutorials on the apple website.

Aperture is a good program but after 18 months of using it I finally had enough of the Digital Asset Management annoyances in it. In particular case-sensitive keywords and the fact smart albums appear to lose smartness over time for some bizarre and unfathomable reason. Also I was getting this issue where in the filters I couldn't locate all the keywords in my keyword list - some were just plain missing and no idea why (they show in the Keywords panel). In the end, and as I pretty much use keywording and smart albums to find exactly what I want (my folder names are completely non-descriptive) I just had enough.

I've moved over to Lightroom 2.4 just this week. I trialled 1.3 way way back and thought it horrid but Lightroom 2 is hugely improved. I'm liking it very much!

LJR - Very strange, I've had none of those problems with Aperture.
