I am looking into purchasing a new lens soon.... I do mostly natural light portrait work and I have my first solo wedding in September. I have a Nikon d300 and the only lens I own is a 50mm f/2.8. I am on a budget so I was looking at the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR IF-ED Micro. If anyone has any reviews on this lens I would love to hear them or any other lenses in mind that I might be interested ( I will buy used and my budget is around $800 american)

Nikon 85mm f/1.8G is worth checking out or even the Sigma 85mm f/1.4. What equipment do you have for the wedding? As you will run into trouble if you're unprepared.

Seems like a bit of overkill for what you are wanting. Great for macro, but for weddings?
I would have thought a good zoom would be what you need, a 70-200 for instance.

edit: beat me to it!

Are you relying on one camera body?
Doesn't seem like a good idea to swap lenses during the proceedings.
One lens per body.

no I will be renting another body as well.... im just looking to buy something that is in my budget and can be used for portrait and the occasional wedding
